Rewiring an M5

Hi everyone!

I have been rebuilding an M5 for track use. It would seem that the previous owner already pulled the wiring for the instrument cluster and got rid of it. I have been trying to figure out the easiest way to restore these functions for monitoring purposes without buying the 1000 harness from BMW.

I was hoping someone could help me with either adapting a non-M one or making one. Does anyone have experience with this? I am using a non-M cluster for now. I also need to replace the headlight harness.

The car is currently running on a painless system.

TIA

A fair bit of wiring in these beautiful E34 M5s , here's just some of it :

I've got the wiring for the instrument cluster if you'd like me to send it over .

The wiring for the headlights is a bit more difficult to separate .

You would be my personal hero if I could get that. Is there an amount of money you are looking to get for the engine wiring?
My car runs but I want the cluster wired in so I can monitor functions. I suppose I should look to wire some gages in or adapt an existing cluster.

The wiring harness for the instrument cluster is not particularly large and so I could ship that to you for a nominal GBP 25 + shipping cost which would be approx GBP30 .....

The headlight wiring is spliced into the main wiring shown in the picture and would take a fair bit of separating , which , in all honesty is something I have no time for .......It would be uneconomic to ship the entire wiring to you as it is incredibly heavy !

We definitely can use that harness for the cluster and the price is very good. My car has a euro DME already so hopefully this is all compatible. Off hand, do you know if it would wire into a non-M gage cluster from another E34? We will probably just run new wire for the head lights at this point.

So it looks like we also need an actual M instrument cluster. The harness plugs do not seem to fit correctly.

Anyone have one laying around?
