Pictures of the Carbon intake.....finally!

After numerous PM's and emails asking what this carbon intake looks like I spoke about a few times......here we are:

Casing is complete Carbon Fibre, not overlayed.
Air Filter is dry.
As you can see from the photos of my dirty engine bay, the fitment is extremely tight. You have to move the power steering reservoir over slightly and then it goes in quite nicely.
It is the only intake we have ever come accross which has the same size internal diameter as the monster E34 M5 MAF.
The carbon Casing runs down the radiator all the way down to the chassis rail so there is no heatsoaking.

Air intake temperatures as seen by AIT sensor are actually consistently lower than the standard factory airbox.

AIT sensor located inside the connecting hose from MAF to cabon intake.

It's not the GruppeM, they only use K&N oiled filters.

Umnitza??.......not aware they made anything.

This is made by Racing Dynamics.

I should have looked harder as their badge is on the end

The Umnitza one was one I saw on an Umnitza site - I now see it's made by Simota.

I tried the Simota one. It's definately not one to consider on this car. The metal tubing going from the MAF to the airbox reduces in internal diameter quite drastically. I don't need I need to explain why this is bad. You lose power almost everywhere with that. The carbon coated casing is also a very poor heatshield.

Of course, looks are not everything when you're doing stuff to ///M engines. What you can get away with on a 'normal' motor will be ridiculed on an ///M

Although £1000 for the Gruppe M one for the Z4M is a lot of money for what is essentially a bit of carbon fibre and a filter - after all, a full carbon roof is only £1300!
