I think it's great to see sellers advertising E34 M5's for this kind of money, surely we should be encouraging this kind of behaviour. The sooner we stop talking down the value of these amazing cars the better. Especially Orinocco's!

Hiya,
Sorry, I appear to have been misunderstood a little.
This was said tongue-in-cheek as I remember there being a little ribbing and sibling rivalry last year over the Burgandy cars being a nicer colour than the Orinoco. It was purely meant in jest.
On a serious note, it
is good to see these cars being priced higher than the E39 version in some cases. Late 2008 there seemed to be glut of cars, especially 1990 to 1993 cars, being dumped on eBay at silly money, £1k to £3k. This appears to have stopped, a completed items search shows very few cars sold there recently in E34 M5 form.
My poorly early 3.6 with it's crazy fading 'brilliant red' paint has effectively stopped depreciating now and it's love, not love of money, that makes me keep it going, but it is still a pity that the finest of E34 M5's don't seem to hold their value against say a merely 'good' BiTurbo or some other models and Marques.
The Eight-Series owners have seen a similar situation, a early 850 worth peanuts and the later cars being kept off the market as owners would rather keep them than sell at a big loss, but nowadays they've fought through this and the 850 CSI and Alpina B12 seem to get much stronger prices nowadays.
Kind Regards
Ivan
P.S. Funny story.
I love 8 series cars, but was talking to a car-dealer mate a few weeks ago about them when he recalled a funny thing that happened. He used to work for a second-hand 'prestige' car dealer.
A guy came in couple of years ago with an early 1989 850 and wanted to swap it against a much newer car. When told how much he'd get for it as part-ex, then something like £5k, he nearly choked, spluttering "Are you kidding, I bought his car new for £60,000 and options, there's no way it's only worth that...".
The answer my friend gave was;
"Sir, you bought, from new, the fastest depreciating car in the country... in white."
Apparently the owner took it in good grace and they did business on other cars in due time!
