BMW M5 Saloon E34 LTD Edition 39/50 surfaced on ebay

BMW M5 Saloon E34 LTD Edition (1 0f 50 cars) on eBay, also, BMW, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 07-Mar-09 02:47:12 GMT)

Item 200314065500

£8995.

Seller did not reply to me when I asked what the mileage was.

I have a little back-burner project ongoing collating details of all the xx/50 cars. This is the first I've seen of number 39.

I think £9k is a bit rich in the current economic climate, especially for an Orinoco, but I suppose if the mileage and condition turn out to be very good, it might get that 2000 E39 M5 money.

Kind Regards

Ivan

Does a list of exactly which sequence of numbers matches up to which colours and the actual build dates, not when each car was given a numbered plate xx/50.

Would love to know the full service history plus bills for that car.

The car has been sold...mileage under 100K and did not go for the asking price! Just spoke with the dealership, a tad cagey with details but gave away enough to get some info. Greedy sellers!

I think it's great to see sellers advertising E34 M5's for this kind of money, surely we should be encouraging this kind of behaviour. The sooner we stop talking down the value of these amazing cars the better. Especially Orinocco's!

The only bit of interesting information I can add to this is that
James Paul have certainly been selling ///M cars for years....as
I remember back in 1999 seeing an Alpine White 3.6 for sale with them.

It was £16,000 (oh how times change ! ) and had a replacement engine

So they've certainly delt with this type of car before..

Getting back to the LE, I may have pics of this car & I'll check tonight.
I suspect it was for sale a while back at Munich Legends....................

Regards,

Alan.

Orinocco is the best colour. I would love one.

Hiya,

Sorry, I appear to have been misunderstood a little.

This was said tongue-in-cheek as I remember there being a little ribbing and sibling rivalry last year over the Burgandy cars being a nicer colour than the Orinoco. It was purely meant in jest.

On a serious note, it is good to see these cars being priced higher than the E39 version in some cases. Late 2008 there seemed to be glut of cars, especially 1990 to 1993 cars, being dumped on eBay at silly money, £1k to £3k. This appears to have stopped, a completed items search shows very few cars sold there recently in E34 M5 form.

My poorly early 3.6 with it's crazy fading 'brilliant red' paint has effectively stopped depreciating now and it's love, not love of money, that makes me keep it going, but it is still a pity that the finest of E34 M5's don't seem to hold their value against say a merely 'good' BiTurbo or some other models and Marques.

The Eight-Series owners have seen a similar situation, a early 850 worth peanuts and the later cars being kept off the market as owners would rather keep them than sell at a big loss, but nowadays they've fought through this and the 850 CSI and Alpina B12 seem to get much stronger prices nowadays.

Kind Regards

Ivan

P.S. Funny story.
I love 8 series cars, but was talking to a car-dealer mate a few weeks ago about them when he recalled a funny thing that happened. He used to work for a second-hand 'prestige' car dealer.

A guy came in couple of years ago with an early 1989 850 and wanted to swap it against a much newer car. When told how much he'd get for it as part-ex, then something like £5k, he nearly choked, spluttering "Are you kidding, I bought his car new for £60,000 and options, there's no way it's only worth that...".

The answer my friend gave was;
"Sir, you bought, from new, the fastest depreciating car in the country... in white."

Apparently the owner took it in good grace and they did business on other cars in due time!

.

As we all know, the number of decent 3.6's and 3.8's is getting fewer and fewer, so well cared for cars with bills to prove the poverty status of the owners will only rise. As the economy improves in 2010, our surviving cars will soon be worth more than the mass of E39's clogging up the market.

Oh how I hanker after a V8S Alpina.....

Don't worry Ivan; I know we've heard it all before regarding M5 values almost as often as there's been a ridiculous oil thread.

I couldn't find any emoticons when I was posting a reply so most of my ill gotten humour was missed.

Take care out there ladies; it's a jungle.
