SLS problem

Welcome to the board. Please do a search on either sls, rearsuspension, pentosin, rear shocks, self levelling system, sls delete, PAS (Power assistance steering) or a combination of these.

This is probably one of the most discussed subjects on the board! No use in exaplaining here!

That it'll cost you money is a sure thing. How much remains the question based on detailed diagnose of the problem. (2 rear shocks > 2000 euro's, tubing, dividers etc...)

First thing to check is: Level of Pentosin (green stuff, maybe brown due tyo age and water) in the black canistor. Location: left front under the hood with a rather bif knurled knob on it. Undo the knob, check level. Level should be visible just above bottom of mesh. Fill her up if required.
The check read shocks. Remove rear wheel and check for seepage.

Damn... what am I doing..........do the search first

Anyway, welcome to the board. At least you got the sls which is offcourse original to the e34 M5

thanks crash & burn!

well, i did a research here before posting this, but unfortunatelly all my moves didn´t went to solving the problem:
I changed the two front struts for brand new ones...still don´t need to change the rears since they´re not leaking. changed the pentosin oil, it´s brand new and the level is just above the mesh, sometimes the level changes. had the suspension bleeded...thougth it was air in the sistem but it´s not...
the rear is really stiff, the front is alright though....

will continue my search....maybe one day get it solved....guessing when i change for new struts! heheh

also noticed that my steering is sometimes hard and sometimes soft...

anyway, thanks man!

Stiff rear suspension sounds like the accumulators may be shot. That may explain the sagging over night as well. They are not too expensive, and relatively easy to replace. If you drive a lot with worn accumulators, the rear shocks will start leaking very quickly.

YUP,

To Kiudog: Fronts are sealed shocks. They are not "connected" to the rears. Like Alexa says: Accumulators probably shot. They are about 200 euro's a piece and you'll need some tubing as well.

Agree with crash and burn, the pentosin prob needs replacing as is probably original and at 13years that needs replacing

Cheaper than replacing accumulators in the short term, not def your prob but would be my first option

thanks for the reply!! Is there a Fault code for this accumulator error? I already changed the pentosin and bled the system.
in other words, how do I check if the accumulators are shot?
thank you!

Is the rear suspension really hard and bouncy? If so, I would say they are shot.
There are 2 of them, so if one is gone only, the symptoms will be less severe.

And they are placed above the rear axle against the bottom of the car. Leftone has is more difficult to reach due to the exhaust.
