fairly recent - according to the service receipts / history I have (which is pretty limited to last few years) - they we're replace at 112,000km which is 18,000 km's ago (11,000 miles). They we're done in June 2006.

My car's ride height at the back is too low, and, slightly un-even side to side.

I think the springs may need replacing, it's certainly sag's at the back when loaded, ie, the SLS is struggling to Self Level.

an extra complication is the rear wheels and tyres, which are oversized - 265/17/40 on the back, 245/17/45 on the front, so standard setup has already been comprised :-( - but I do love my alpinas :-)

I suspect this :
RealOEM.com BMW E34 M5 3.8 LEVELL.DEVICE/REGULATING VALVE/ATT.PARTS
Part 6.
The hydraulic check valve is worn.
In combination with the ride height hall effect sensor reading o/s of range.
This may be set ride height atrributed.
On B36, you would likely get a sls warning.
On B38 you would get EDC warning & default to damper solenoids de-energised.

Key off, then key on = system reset.

Cheers
Farrell
I suspected on the valve too...did a system bleed and set up on the valve arm (sensor that goes attached on the rear antisway bar). I wonder what you mean by key off, key on....the key on the front panel?? (kompfort/sport)

Hi Jamie , it seems to be a characteristic of these cars that the rear driver's side sits a touch lower than the passenger side .

Is this your experience ?

Have you checked for snapped rear springs ?

I think your conclusions re the tyre sizes are probably correct .
