Valve clearances and cover done!!!!!

Just finished my valve clearances today, Thanks to my main man (u know who you are!). took us a good few hours over the last few weekends but oh yes it was well worth it.
Went on good test drive afterwards and she was pulling hard up to 165mph with more to go(private road of course) it has also quietend the top end down a treat aswell.
While she was in bits i thought it would be nice to do somthing with my scabby looking valve cover so i went to see a guy i know who does this sort of thing.
Heres the end result.

Brilliant Ben ....... Just out of interest , how many clearances were out of tolerance ?

Do you have the measurements ? i.e. Which cylinders , intake or exhaust etc etc ?

Wanna race .......private road of course ..... I know that you have almighty long driveways in Hertford !

Alright Dave,We found 6 clearances that were out of tolerenace, 2 inlets and 4 exhuasts all loose .34's .35's etc. Brought them back with new shims. All shims got measured with the good old digital micrometer. There were a couple of clearances that were pretty much on bang on .33, we managed to use some of the old shims that measured up odd sizes to get them closer to .30.The finished measurements were none lower than .29 and nothing above .32. We even hunted down some feeler gauges with .28 .30 .33 blades for min an max tolerances. so no putting 2 blades together!
Replaced all gaskets and changed plugs and oil it has made her run sweet.

Good skills Ben .......I've heard it said that loose is good i.e. 0.33 although I prefer to go on the lower / tighter end i.e. 0.28 which should result in the valve opening further .....

Your crossbar over the frontlegs is looking nice. Where did you get it and how much is it? Do you really notice any difference in fast corners?

My thoughts too ......It's looks like a Racing Dynamics Strut Brace .They are available from their website for around EUR300 IIRC .

Pictures are looking really nice although personally I like clean black and metal parts without any dirt, black spots, oil, sand or gunk on it. I hate yellowish/ brownish very hard to get off sh*t they've put on in the factory. How to f*ck up a glorious engine like this. It took me hours to get it of using a steel brush and all sorts of liquid solvent
