Where can I find a new MAF

Hello everybody. My car fails badly when I push the trottle. It's been a
long time since I have this issue. Two days ago, a guy owning another M5
let me use his MAF for a while and now I know that this was the fault. So
once that I have found the source of the problem I am looking for a new
unit. The dealer wants 600euro for it which is terribly
expensive; I only have found a couple of US companies selling cheap MAFs.

Injection Labs Inc.

BMW M5 Python Air Mass Meter - 1991-1993 BMW M5 - Python V29833761

Does anyone know these? Are their MAFs compatible with our cars and
reliable? Any other (european) solution?

Thanks and regards

Injection Labs have successfully rebuilt many MAFS for the Porsche 928 in the USA which is the same as the 3.6 M5 , same Bosch part No.0280 214 001
You could also try JDS Porsche MAF Airflow Calibration & Repair in the UK., again many successful maf repairs.

Robinson, I just had my MAF tested and rebuilt by injectionlabs.com. They know what they are doing and developed a longer lasting wire filament for the MAF. I sent mine fedex with a return label and got it back 4 days after I shipped it. They will test it for free and overhaul it for around 175.00 USD. If you tell them the bosch part number they will let you know if they can do it. I don't think they sell the M5 MAF because of the rarity of good cores.

For 175.00 and shipping costs you have a new MAF.

Good luck, Rob

Thanks a lot, Martin and Rob. I contacted JDS Porsche and they quoted 340 euros everything included, which I find quite expensive. I have sent a mail to Injectionlabs with the Bosch p/n. I'm waiting for their reply.

Best regards,

Forum member JED has a unit for sale but it comes from a 3.8 (mine is a 3.6) ETK shows different p/n for them and I imagine that they are not compatible. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks and regards

Sorry Robinson , the 3.8 & 3.6 are NOT interchangeable, apart from any ECU input differences the 3.6 has a rectangular connector & the 3.8 a round one.

I have finally sent my MAF to Injectionlabs.com for repair. Price was very, very reasonable although travelling time to and from US will be longer, of course.

Regards

My MAF came back from Injection Labs some days ago. Mounted it in the car, the idle is more stable now and the power has increased but, , the jerk is still there when I accelerate frankly. It could only be one of two things, either the MAF has not been fixed correctly or the problem lies somewhere else. I have swapped MAFs with my friend again to discover that my car shows the same jerking with HIS MAF.

Question now is, what can be the source of the problem? I have replaced distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and the O2 sensor.

The engine runs OK at uniform speed or medium acceleration but starts jerking when I try to get maximum power. Sometimes it sounds as if it is running on 5 or 4 cylinders. Nevertheless it goes up to 7.200rpm.

Regards,

Have you checked for vac. leaks or correct injector pulse? Does it miss randomly or at a regular rhythm? If at random I'd check the coil, if it's regularly I'd check the ignition wires and the injectors.
