Mt E34 is about to go some pretty major restoration work, ie skirts off, bumpers off, full rust inspection, possible respray certainly lower panels / bonnet / full front end and then a massive underseal renovation by Rustmaster.

Photos if possible will be posted and am looking at the work being undertaken by Townley (Dartford) who are E30 and M specialists so they know the possible problem spots.

However whilst the car is being worked on and possibly being used a sa seasonal (4,000 mile per year showcar) how about a punt on the following!

Worth bring upto a better standard?

I reckon if it's a half decent touring then it's always worth a punt!

If you're anything like me though - buying a second car as a daily driver with the intention of only keeping one in the best of order/full resto - will actually turn into restoring two cars and not wanting to use either for a daily thus necessitating a third car for that purpose (preferably newish so nothing to 'restore'....)!!!

Would be very interested to see pics and write-up of your restoration work and any particular points being addressed. Always great to hear of a beast being given the treatment they deserve now they're approaching their 20's.

I would love an M5 to just use and somewhat not spend much on re cosmetics....over the winter months. Am very tempted to pop out and look at this car and maybe make the guy an offer and see how much he wants the cash.

Am going to write a detailed piece regarding what work needs to be done, plus posting bills etc, so watch this space.
