Hiya Rob

They are a piece of cake to fit, the biggest problem is finding somewhere to mount the ballast boxes, i mounted one of mine under the alarm siren on the left hand side and starpped the right hand ballast box to the cross member behind the right light cluster.

mounting the bulbs was just punching a 20mm hole in the cap of the headlight, and squashing the rubber gromit in.

I'd get you pictures but my cars been locked away in its garage for the past 2 months

thanks for reply....

....i have found some more info also.
i had a look today again and i can see where you mean,np.
my only other prob is that....i have 'extra' wires that i dont think i need to use.....i am going just for the direct plug-in setup and replacing the 7.5amp fuses to 10amp.
also...i read that the ballast bodies should not ground.however, this kit has an earthed mounting bracket.
i may just connect it all before to test it out etc
hoping to fit these over next few days, think should be ok.

thanks again

fitted...

....and all seems ok.
changed out the 7.5amp for 10amp fuses and the fitting went well.
its a damn tight fit just to get the bulbs in on my 3.8 but was real carefull and managed to get them in!
ballast box on rh side is fitted inbetween the light cluster housings....so its not visible with the cover on.lh side will be the same but for today it is just cable tied to the oil filter housing.
i take it that the cables must hang down on the resistor box assembly?
anyhow....i will be flying down the darkest road i can find!
they are so much brighter than normal even in the daylight,so i am now very happy.wish i had got off my a**e earlier and done them.

on a sad note.....where the expansion tank fits to the inner wing....its rotted through!! further investigation required

Talk to Leif or Jim if you can, but if they are not available, Paul or Marcus should be able to help you. They have a harness that should fix this problem. Hope it helps.

Cheers,

Brian

The Xenon globes don't draw the same amount of current as a standard globe so the CCM thinks a globe has blown.

It is a problem in any vehicle with a warning system where HID or LED replacement globes have been fitted. Go to your local Auto Parts store, explain your issue and they will sell you a resistor to put in the line for not much money

You need a resistor between the two leads that supply the dipped beam. This fools the computer into thinking that you still have a light bulb in place. I got mine for a few quid from CA automotive who are sponsors of this Board and supplied my kit. Good luck.

Interesting that you gents are experiencing OBC check light faults.
Can you confirm which kit this is & wether the ballast control is digital or analogue ?

This did happen with some 1st gen aftermarket analogue ballasts a few yrs ago, but only the cheaper
ballasts seemed to do this.
I've fitted some 70 kits to E34's & not had to resort to in-line resistors in 4 yrs of fitting them.
Thats not to say that you don't occasionally get a instrument fault on the OBC but this can be
down to a poor earth in the wiring.
In the above case this appears to be caused by the initial switching of the ballasts from cold
when the voltage draw is at peak to support the 23Kv required to light off the light capsule.
After 8 secs, the voltage runs @ 8Kv.

That said, I have one car that awaits a check to resolve wether part or wiring is at issue & its symptoms are very unusual.
However, these installs tend to be reliable & in all the kits I have fitted, only two including that mentioned have given issue.

Darren: Not sure if my kit is digital or analogue. Got it a couple of years ago from Ca automotive. Made by Apex Cone. Not that impressed by it. Gives fantastic light (will never be satisfied by anything but Xenons in future!) but looks like a cheapo ebay special from far East. However it was not that cheap! It blows a fuse from time to time as well. I should have got one of your sets!
