Forum etiquette, politeness and namecalling etc

Hello,

I am pointing no fingers and calling no names, nor do I expect you to list cuplrits below, but the overall quality of posting has deteriorated in the last few days and weeks.

Please bear in mind two things on m5board;

One.

English is not the first language of many menbers. Therefore please read any messages in context of the entire thread, as it can be difficult to determine whether the poster is simply being blunt due to their level of fluency in the language (perfectly acceptable) or else is actually abrasive, which is not ok. Therefore temper your reply with clear facts and intelligent argument written as clearly as possible rather than insults.

Two.

Much as I wish it were possible, you cannot reach out into your screen and strangle anyone no matter how stupid they appear to you and how desperately they seem to need it.

The internet is a big place and this website is well respected. This means that if you know someone is a fool, don't just write "you're a xxxx", but leave it alone. If you do not have cold hard facts to repudate a stupid statement, a member who does will be along soon.

This is not bimmerforums, but will become so if we do not act better.

Kees and Gustav have intervened in the E34 forum before, powering though happily deleting entire threads and removing members. Their gaze is not currently sweeping this forum like the Eye of Sauron right now, so let's keep out heads down!

As it can be so difficult to determine friend from foe in these cases, valuable members may be lost, something the E34 area would not benefit from.

The ball is as ever, in your court.

Regards

Ivan

Firstly the threads IvanDias are referring to have nothing to do with oil

The 'Eye of Sauron' reference is because IvanDias is the original Hobbit (or Lord of the 'Ring' as he's known to some of the board members - and I don't mean the one in Germany).

BTW English is not necessarily the first language of some of the English people on here either - or you would surmise that from the grammar, syntax and spelling that you regularly see

^^^Coming from somebody in Liverpool the above does make me laugh! Keep the language clean, leave the insults out and lets have informative, educational, accurate and often amusing posts, not borish behaviour from people with issues.

I still think PS2's are a waste of money and we need to spend more time discussing pads and disks!!!

well.

Does this include that I can't insult Darren anymore? Because I was just about to launce a new charge after my absence

In all seriousness, let's remain E34 people and not become like the E39 and E60 users

Turning the other cheek

But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also!

This basically means that the problem is not with the offender but with the offendee.
If you feel offended then you are offended not the other way around. The offender can best be offended by turning the the other cheek as well. This may sound strange from a pure atheist like myself but the above works perfectly.

Good example!!!! Now I'm turning the other cheek.
By the way!
A more modern phrase would be: TALK TO THE HAND!
