My mate is going to be opening up a garage, so needs a signature car

As I need an M5 that can act as my comfy car, then that one stays standard.

Alpine Amy needs an engine, so it's getting probably a 3.5 (the best one for turboing I think) and then a bit of boooost. Mate has muchos experience of turbos over the years from Nissans, but as it's effectively a free/ruined car at the moment then it's the perfect base point for him to tinker!

As M5 seats are rubbish, it will probably get the Corbeau buckets out of my own ex-BTCC Honda Integra as I want a set of Recaro SPGs for that.

A cage then seems a logical addition (as this thing will probably be quick) and it can get stickered up in garage colours as well!

Ok, so it's not VS Motors, but you get the idea

The main problem is I love track cars - I've already got 2, but they're both FWD .... need a manly one that scares the living crap out of me

Ian (who you met) is a fully coded welder ... thinking he can make up a half-cage and loads of braces for it without too many probs ... it doesn't need to be FIA approved

Drove Project Calypso for the first time today since her most recent efforts with Weight Watchers points plan...the results are very impressive.

Initial impressions are that the car now feels much more direct, the acceleration is notably quicker through 3rd and 4th, and the suspension whilst still not being right is much better.

The experience of driving the car is obviously heightened by the noise and heat. The latter of which will be solved by turning on the A/C which has now decided to work perfectly!!

Seats have been chosen and should be ordered next week and will be fitted when the car goes over to Davidoli's for some mechanical tidying.

Can't wait to tighten the suspension and get the car on the track!!

Thanks to Terry for handling the electrical work, I was dreading that part of the conversion, and also for the cosmetic upgrades the car has received whilst parked out the front of his place.

I am sure i speak for Terry as well when I add a special thanks to Dave for making this all possible.

Cosmetic Work

After much deliberation we have (we think) settled on the seats and harnessess of choice that are to be fitted to the car in early September '08.

Whilst we wait for these to arrive, I've arranged for some subtle 'cosmetic' upgrades / additions to Project Calypso !

More stuff on the serious upgrades once the kit has arrived and been fitted !

Rear Spolier goes this weekend - and I've sourced a replacement original 'i' badge to accompany the '518'..........

Love the driver name stickers TK , very tongue in cheek !

I wouldn't rely on the sale of the rear spoiler to fund any upgrades .......my Ebay auction for Alpine Amy's rear spoiler ended without a bid yesterday , despite a starting price of £ 0.99 !

Good luck with the project and keep us updated !

Quick update...

Progress has slowed over the last few weeks whilst seats and harnesses were being sought.

I am now pleased to say that we now have 2 Willans 4 point harnesses and a pair of Corbeau Sprint seats for Project Calypso, these will be fitted in the next couple of weeks (photos will follow).

Once the seats are in we can focus our attention to driving the car a little harder to understand what suspension / tyre mods are required.

We are still on target for its first trackday in November this year!!

D,

I think the work may be done by this time, however I am off to Vegas on Holiday on the 5th (1st Anniversary and all that).

I have told Terry that he is more than welcome to take the car for its first outing without me, so far he has said that he would rather wait so we could both be there.

Once the seats are in however I am not sure Terry will be able to resist the temptation...
