Seeing your smiling faces in those pics makes this decision more than worthwhile boys !

Have fun and try to have Candice ready for Oct 6th BMWCC track day at Donington at which time she can be reunited with her older sister , Sebring Sienna !

I think many members / owners would be suprised were they to inspect the area under the front footwell carpets ......blocked sunroof drainage channels force the excess water into the strangest places !

You'll all have to form the 'Official M5 Track Slag Display Team'

A few more pictures from the day - detailing :-

1). The water in the front passenger (nearside) footwell - upon removal of the front carpets - Would suggest checking your car's footwells - as on the surface of these very thick carpets, there's no evidence of water ingress - they were bone dry.....

This car has some rust in the front sills - probably as a result of the standing water - and will be welded and repaired in the near future.

2). Removal of the BMW / Westfalia Towbar. It fits neatly behind the rear bumper, and bolts to the car in a number of desginated apertures. the Relay and wiring that was also removed as part of the kit, collectively weighed many KGs.

3). Refitted front bumper - post headlamp and foglamp washer system removal. Note also we're running without the headlamp grille surround and chrome kidneys- great idea by Jon to complement the 'savage' removal of the chrome trim down the flanks ! (results of which you can see in the picture above)

Yesterday I removed the BMW Factory Alarm System (an early nineties relic, & replaced with a discrete 'TK Electronics Productions' immobiliser), the window motors and all wiring in the rear doors (still viewable in the picture above), and tidied-up the front passenger wiring where the glovebox used to be.

I also hard-wired in the Racelogic GPS Performance box laptimer that briefly made an appearance in '38 TK'. (See earlier post).

As Jon mentioned earlier, we're sourcing two bucket seats, harnessess, and a few other bits and pieces.

First impressions - the car feels much lighter - a little 'bouncy' on the suspension - which is no doubt tuned to carry a heavier car. It's likely we'll need to fit firmer springs and to lower the car a little.

But first things first - we'll be doing a track day once the seats are in, to do some fact-finding on how the car performs in it's current, lighter, state.

More soon.

TK.

Dave,

We had a blast getting this far and can't wait to take things to the next stage. I can't wait to get the seats and harnesses in.

Donny on the 6th would be great, unfortunately I am in Vegas for my 1st Anniversary. Tel is more than welcome to join you for project calypso's maiden trackday.

Stevie,

On a serious note the towbar is on ebay at the moment with a day left on the auction. Search for the seller "Project_Calypso".

We were gonna remove our headlamp washer jets also, until Dave found and old leaked BMW technical bulletin, which describes the adverse understeer affects, introduced by their removal.....

Steve
Perhaps this added understeer will go some way to negating Terry's addiction to overtseer!!!
