A few more pictures from the day - detailing :-
1). The water in the front passenger (nearside) footwell - upon removal of the front carpets -
Would suggest checking your car's footwells - as on the surface of these very thick carpets, there's no evidence of water ingress - they were bone dry.....
This car has some rust in the front sills - probably as a result of the standing water - and will be welded and repaired in the near future.
2). Removal of the BMW / Westfalia Towbar. It fits neatly behind the rear bumper, and bolts to the car in a number of desginated apertures. the Relay and wiring that was also removed as part of the kit, collectively weighed many KGs.
3). Refitted front bumper - post headlamp and foglamp washer system removal. Note also we're running without the headlamp grille surround and chrome kidneys- great idea by Jon to complement the 'savage' removal of the chrome trim down the flanks ! (results of which you can see in the picture above)
Yesterday I removed the BMW Factory Alarm System (an early nineties relic, & replaced with a discrete 'TK Electronics Productions' immobiliser), the window motors and all wiring in the rear doors (still viewable in the picture above), and tidied-up the front passenger wiring where the glovebox used to be.
I also hard-wired in the Racelogic GPS Performance box laptimer that briefly made an appearance in '38 TK'. (
See earlier post).
As Jon mentioned earlier, we're sourcing two bucket seats, harnessess, and a few other bits and pieces.
First impressions - the car feels much lighter - a little 'bouncy' on the suspension - which is no doubt tuned to carry a heavier car. It's likely we'll need to fit firmer springs and to lower the car a little.
But first things first - we'll be doing a track day once the seats are in, to do some fact-finding on how the car performs in it's current, lighter, state.
More soon.
