Trying to remove valve shims from tappets

Hello, I am mounting now my new cylinder head after removing the old cracked one. Before mounting the valve tappets I would like to measure the shims thickness, but I am having serious problems to remove them from the tappets. According to the service manual they would have to withdraw with compressed air but I only managed to do it in a fraction of them. More than half of the 24 shims stick to the tappet due to the oil between both, I imagine. I have tried with a magnet too but no success either. Any other trick I might use?.

Thanks and regards, Ramon

I have had the same problem myself - I used a sharp pointed scriber on the side of the shim to help ease them out
