Mystery box next to ECU

I found this box next to my ECU, it looks like I can adjust timing with it.
Turning the little knob doesn't seem to have any effect on how the car runs.
Anyone else has that?
EDIT: 12D3-100SSTB 30AMP is on the back of that box.

my guess would be that it has something to do with the US federalization process. Maybe related to cold start.

Both boxes are black with nothing written on them except for what there is on the pic.
EDIT: Sorry didn't look with my eyes open, 12D3-100SSTB 30AMP is what's on the box.

Context of the word "Timing" may NOT be spark related.

Hi Manuel. The reference to timing maybe something completely different. For instance, if the car used to have a turbo-charger, the "timing" adjustment maybe how long the engine ran after the ignition had been turned off.

Any idea what is/was connected to Pins 2 & 3. If you can figure that out, it could make "filling in the blanks", a little easier.

Reg.

Just need to know where pin 2 goes, as pin 3 most likely goes directly to ground going by the diagram.

I doubt very much that it could be adjusting them timing, as it doesn't appear to have any timing input, so there is nothing to adjust

It looks to be something like a turbo timer as Reg suggested, or could be doing something like keeping the headlights on, or the aux fan on for a little while after the ignition is switched off

it could also be to time the smog pump on a cold start, since the US smog pump has a slightly different run cycle than a euro spec car. (from what i've heard. Our smog pump starts immediately with a cold start, i've heard that a euro 3.8 starts 30sec or so after cold start).
