Gas Mileage

On the way to delivering my car to the Faz Werken I decided to drive like an old fart, no hard accelerating, not exceeding 75mph and lo and behold I averaged 30.7 mpg. That includes being stuck in traffic on the M3. Anyone else gotten similiar?

I averaged 60mpg once (for about 10 seconds) - although I was in 6th and coasting at 40mph.

My average tank-to-tank is currently 24mpg (that's a 420 mile round trip at peak times between Liverpool & London, plus a weekend of driving around to marshal at Oulton Park or Anglesey) - I thought my fuel light had stopped working when it went past 440 miles before finally coming on.

Have never driven like an old fart and have never seen MPG over 20.

Then again, having a busted 02 sensor for god knows how long, may also have something to do with it!

Sometimes tootle to work down dual carrige ways and get mid to late 20's.

If I'm driving, I've never seen the right side of 20 and occasionally been close to 15.

To revive an old thread... the car does smell like it is running rich and suspect it's nearer to 12:1 than 14.5 at full throttle.

It's got to the point where the tank is almost constantly empty.

Not sure mine is ever something other than 18. All tanks have a bit of pootling, some steady motorway, and a large dollop of "ARRRGGG MY BUMS ON FIRE"

Oh well, I suppose I COULD try to eek a few more miles from a tank..
but that is not fun. Thats what I brought the banger for! (record : 49!!)

I drove 133 miles to Charlie's , Surrey Rolling Road , today and averaged 24mpg in Sebring Sienna . My cruising speed is typically approx 90mph with intermitent bursts .

She was then put on the rolling road and displayed an indicated Air to Fuel ratio of 14.4 parts air to 1 part fuel from 3500rpm to 4900rpm ......

The MAF was disconnected , contacts checked , then reconnected and the next run indicated a Air to Fuel ratio between 13.2 : 1 and 12.2 : 1 throughout the rpm range .

Sebring Sienna averaged 23.4mpg on the drive home and a new MAF was fitted as soon as I got back .

Did the Ring trip (out going leg) following my mate who
was towing a Cosworth with a Transporter....
So at 75mph over 362miles we did 31mpg. (5 speed )

On the return leg we only averaged 26.7mpg as we saw several
trips to +150mph.

Long term average at the moment is 25.2mpg (over the last 1000miles)

Regards,

Alan.

Any difference with the new MAF? Performance and consumption wise.
