Hi all, I have posted this on bimmerforums as well.
I am trying to get a group by on carbon fiber sunroof plugs.
It will completely plug your sunroof, losing a good 40 pounds from the highest point of the car.
I am donating a sunroof for the mold. He needs 4 people to commit in buying.
I need 2 more!
any interest?
Thanks guys
ORIGINAL POST ON BIMMERFORUMS:
Ok, I got the info from the guy who could make a mold for sedan sunroofs for the e34.
He wants 245 for each one.
It will cost him 500 to cast the mold, so he is not making big bucks.
We need 3 more to finalize it.
Any interest?

This aucton is for a real Carbon Fiber sunroof filler,I have themto fit E30, E36 and E46 bodys, It was designed to get the weight out of the top of the car for race applications, The factory sunroof , track and motor assy is over 40 pounds and it in the worst place possible( up high) . For maximum vehical handeling you need to get rid of weight or move it down low. To install you need to remove the headliner and the whole sunroof assembly, then install this aprox 4 pound filler pannel in its place, the headliner can be replaced back in the car if so desired. If you have any questions please ask away, I use one in my car and was happy to loose the weight. you have any other questions feel free to E Mail or call me 480-229-6155 Thanks Chad PS:Please look at my other auctions!
Is the price USD $ 245 ? And how much would shipping to the UK be ?
Also , does this carbon fibre panel fit onto the original sunroof fitments and thus open / close.... or just blank off the aperture , so that part of the weight reduction is achieved by losing the sunroof motor ?

Yes the price is $245. I will inquire about UK shipping.
The roof will be "blanked" off. So you lose the sunroof motor as well. I have completely stripped an old 525i, and the track/sunroof/motor assembly weighs a good 30+ pounds.
I am interested dependant on mounting and sealing........how does it attach and seal to the roof panel? What does it look like from the top/outside? Any pics inside and out of 1 installed on any car would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed screws on the inside - do they match up to pre-existing nutserts from the sunroof mounting? If not, what are they mounted into? I also assume that a sealant of some sort needs to be used to prevent water ingress since the drain channels/tubes are non-existant, correct? Also, I noticed that the E36 uses the pre-existing rubber seal that is glued to the roof panel.........but on an E34 it is glued to the sliding panel - we would need to purchase and install a new seal? Just want to get all my ducks in a row for proper install.

not too interested in the roof, but may be interested in a hood and trunk lid!! ask your supplier how much maybe we can get enough interest, i can post on the E34 site as well. Thanks Brian
