Plugged in Air Pump, O2 sensor showing?

Long sotry short, I was tidying up under the hood and felt like checking out the pulse generator and noticed a plug not connected.
Well I plugged her up and noticed that the air pump started working for the first time since Ive owned this car, as it had never been plugged in.

Well within a day or two of that, my o2 code started showing up and the car would die sometimes when coming to a stop. I would start it right back up, and continue on.

I cleared the code once since, reading 1444. But once again it started showing the o2 sensor code. It would come on maybe 25 seconds after coming to a stop, but as soon as I blip the throttle or accelerate, it would go away until the next time I sat with the car running.

Are they related? Is it a coincidence? Is the o2 really bad? It never did this prior to the air pump being connected.

Thanks
