These cars just try your patience....

After managing to destroy a coil pack recently (my own fault, ignition lead woe), we got the car working again, but picking up an intermittent misfire.

Start car cold, no misfire, leave it, come back to it warm, misfire.

Turns out one of the big rubber boots on the bottom of coil pack 5 isn't sealing well at the top, so it seems to let in moisture and condensation. Fix is to take off the coil pack and clean up the metal rod and remove moisture from the well, but it's a pain.

Easy fix - I'll replace the 6 rubber boots.

Plus, go to start it this morning - won't start.

Car never had much petrol in it (light had just came on) and was parked facing uphill, so wouldn't catch.

Rolled car onto flat, but on camber of road it STILL wouldn't catch, then flattened it's battery

Quick trip to petrol station with a fuel can and all well ... but still, never a week passes without some grief

Stephen ,

Once you have the fundamentals sorted on your car you will have to find something else to moan about !

Go out raving , dance with some fine chicas , forget Avus Annabel for today and enjoy your life !

Everyday that you wake up is a day of celebration !

Definitely a car you need to stay on top of, financially too unfortunately. Mine had central locking issues when I first got it due to water in the back seat. All fixed now, but then the suspension started wearing down and things built up before I could afford to fix them. I have it registered non op for now until I finish school and can afford to go through everything! Once that is done it will hopefully just be day to day up keep. I know it will never be a new car, but that is part of the reason I love it. Those few times before when everything was, not tip top, but some what functional and I could get on it, make up for every time something has gone wrong. God I love this car and can't wait to get it back on the road!!! Things could be worse, you could be dealing with the same maintenance on a normal car.

Cheers,

Brian

Wise words indeed Brian, at least it's all worth it

The trouble is two of my other cars (Honda Integras, one with about 250BHP and the other one an ex-racing car with rose joints) ain't exactly trouble free either!

That's why I've got a Rover 214 - it just "works"

In an exiting upgrade to this thread, we replaced the temp sensor in the front bumper that feeds the internal temp display. It didn't do anything so the wiring must be broken, even though it seemed fine with a multi-meter.

Low and behold my mate tells me the temp display started working for a couple of hours yesterday .... then stopped again :p

M8, if they were easy, everyone would want one and they'd cost a mint to buy as well as maintain.

Let's face it, if you'd done 100,000 miles by the time you were 15 years old and at the same pace as most of these are driven, you probably be having expensive surgery too !

We don't have 'em because they're relaible, we have 'em because they're FUN !

Reg.
