Electric seats a standard option?

Hi

Was the electrically adjustable seats (sorry, dont know an english word for this kinda seats) an option, or was it in all the M5 E34's?

I was checking out a 93' M5 at a dealership today, and it did not have electrically adjustable seats, wich puzzeled me a bit, as all the other M5 E34's i have seen, had it.
This reason for this could be the very high tax we (180% in Denmark) have to pay on cars, because it is not un-normal that the cars for the danish market dont have as many extras, as they have for the german market ex. This is ofcourse to keep the price as low as possible, as it have allready rocketed tru the skys :-/

Due to the rarity of the M5 in England, I have seen very few.

But !
Mine has electric seats, but no memory function. I know that several others on the board have memory units, and possibly these control the mirrors too, as there has been talk of extra wiring when doormirrors replaced.

I bet that the car was non-electric as standard, but due to its initial purchase price most people whacked on the relatively small cost of electrics, and some went for the memory versions at even more cost.

Mine has "rear reading lights" option installed.

This boggled my mind, as a) I have never sat in the back except when cleaning the beast. b) How can you read in an 155mph M5?

I personally do not see the point of electric seats!! when was the last time you lot adjusted them apart from for cleaning purposes..And letting somebody else namely the missus drive the M5... <------yeah its laughable isnt it!

Another waste of time was in a 1993 3.8 I looked at (WHICH WAS SOLD WHILE I WAS ABOUT TO BUY YEAH AVUS BLUE ONE!) Yeah this 3.8 had rear headrests that popped up individually when either rear passenger clicked the seat belt in the clicky thing. And also where you all have blanks in the bulkhead under the rear sear (literally behind your calfs in the back) there was little switches like electric window switches. Presumably these moved the rear seat back forward and back (or so the seller told me) but the were broken!! typical waste of time.

The only thing I think is ok is when you have different people driving the car and need to constantly adjust the seats and controlls. Memory is good here!!

Apart from that all these little motors add weight and strip the car of performance and make it drink even more fuel!!!

Regards

Mike

The craziest option I have ever seen is on the 3 Series cars, where you can actually buy one with a M series engine in it!! Some of them even have four exhausts!!

Now that IS a waste, as everyone knows the 3 series is a girls car, and they obviously don`t need that powerplant in it just to drive into town and buy a few dresses...
