Interior door panel repair

Hi Lads,
Before it try it "my own way" (prob a ballsup!), can anyone tell me the best way to repair/restick the vinyl covering on the door cards?
The rears are worst, with the vinyl de-laminating from the shaped area under the armrests.
I know practise makes perfect, but i want it perfect first time!
Cheers
Colin.

Why not go and buy some new door cards or talk to a breakers to get a replacement?

I wanted a new black leather drawer front for my car.

BMW told me there were three different leathers in black alone!

As most E34's are straight crushed now instead of broken for parts, matching interiors with a breaker can be more difficult than it was a few years ago.

The biggest breaker in my town has now closed their area from the public, so no more going into their place and browsing through all the BMW's picking the best bits, you have to stand at the counter and ask the staff for specific parts!

Gone are the days of finding big brake E32s for peanuts or spending an hour getting walnut trim out of smacked 540i's.

Back on topic, I thought the delamination was covered on www.bmwe34.net but the site is down at time of writing.

Regards

Ivan

New door cards are £1300 plus vat a set
Even plain E34's are getting increasingly rare in the breakers now, and even if I found one the chances are the door cards would be the same or worse than the ones I've got.
Going to speak to my local trim shop next week (about leather?).
Will keep you posted.

I'd like to see some pics of the problem.

That said, any decent uphosterer should be able to sort the door cards out

The days when you can do this are rapidly disapearing.
The trim item dealer listings are here one day, then gone.

Even some PT parts are becoming single / kit items.
Try buying a complete ignition lead set for a 3.6 from stealer !
Many PT parts on back order at varying times from Germany.
(Ie not in stock in Germany)

Most door cards have delaminated to greater or lesser degree.
The plastic covered rear door cards are worst in the arm rest section.
I have repaired small sections of delaminated trim by drilling a 2.5mm hole
through the back of the door card in a
couple of areas behind the delaminated section.
Then inject some automotive trim superglue in through the holes.
Wait for a a couple of mins & then push the plastic skin back down & hold it there.
It will work.
I did mine 6 yrs ago & its still ok.

If large section have delaminated, you are into heating the plastic or leather
by applying heat to the back of the door cards
then removing the leather or plastic by peeling carefully.
You then clean the door card & key the surface with schotch brite.
Then spray apply automotive trim super glue & re-apply
the leather or plastic skin working from top of door card to bottom.
Please note, automotive trim glue has some give so you can move the plastic &
leather around on contact without immediate adhesion.

Rear parcel shelfs covered in leather = good luck.
Many are not available now, especially those with apertures for electric blind.
Thats a professional re-trim imho or it will lift with direct sunlight & raised cabin temps.
The door cards are not so suceptible in this respect.

Cheers

Get it all retrimmed in velvet or alcantara - only about a £2k job (or £1k for a Z4 )
