The point of this thread was to discuss a 20 J owned by a Swedish board member, I agreed to help him sell the car using the forum to place the ad, and to discuss his 20 J. As this would help the car get exposure to enthusiasts, the only kind of people interested in a car like this.
You on the other hand continue to revert to some Alex Behrendt, why I do not know. Is he going to buy this car? I doubt it. And to be honest who cares that some guy only wanted to pay 14500, maybe he was cheap, maybe he wanted a super good deal, whatever the case it still remains irrelevant. I could go on to autotrader and offer €20k for a 993 GT2, the owner would tell me to F#€K OFF!
I recently had a Chevy s10 on the market, I bought it for 1500 euros last year as a renovation project. I got several offers, one for 150 euros, the other was to swap the car for a fake breitling watch. Does that mean its only worth that amount? Obviously not, I could sell the 33 inch tyres for 800 euros.
Whatever point it is you are trying to make please make it because I am getting very tired of this. If you want to help sell the car, contact the owner and I will gladly let you try once again, as in all honesty its simply not worth the hassle!
This is not a contest of competetion. I know Karl as a realistic enthusiast who sticks to the facts. I also know of several 20 Jahre M's that have been sold in the 9k till 11k price bracket. However that was in a time in which there was sufficient offerings of E34S cars. I can imagine that these have moved upwards, but I will not rate a 20 Jahre M as high as a similar condition 1995 E34 M5 6sp. This is a personal opinion off course, but I can imagine that other people feel differently. It only requires one buyer who is prepared to shell out 20k Euro, but untill that is a fact, that asking price is unrealistic other then an agreed value for insurance purposes.
Dont' get me wrong. I'd love to see that car sell for the asking price, but untill that is a fact this is just wishfull thinking, especially if a car that is supposedly as rare as a 20 Jahre M is already for sale for a long time.

Off topic?
The last post Karl made was very on topic, discussing the car/value of the same in question in a very moderate and factual way....
If you had read his earlier posts, you would notice that Alex Behrendt is a specialist dealer of BMW.s and was mentioned because they had one for sale couple of years ago. Just an example.
Once again the car seems nice enough and if the maintenance and such is in order someone could pay the asked price for the car. It seems to take time though. (i´ve followed this car a bit in the sidelines and it has been for sale on and off for a LONG time now with no official moderation to price(meaning change in add) )
Im kind of sorry for you as the middle mans role is not an easy one. As this is a public forum and you brought the car into focus (it is not its first time here...) there is bound to be speculations about the car as the owner himself does not make an effort to chime in/give more info on the car himself.
I think this could be one of the reasons the car still remains unsold, he seems not to be willing to put in the sales effort that is required (to quote him from the Swedish forum "the car sells itself"....)
I admire the work you are putting into this and hope it gives result.
Lets all be friends here, untill one of us sees the car, it will just be speculations...

Reason: typo
I mean, people have rated GeorgeK's (awesome) Touring for 20K aswell, and that's just a very individually specced car lacking the 20J story.
Wout
I wish.... It would be gone in a NY minute
That said, and having driven both touring and sedans, I have *zero* difficulty seeing why some people do not want a touring, and even less difficulty imagining someone paying way over the odds for a special car, in this case the 20J.
The sad part for the drivers here is that this particular car will lose value as it gets driven, and it would be the total negation of its very essence to *not* drive it.

What seems to me to be going on with thread is trying to find an consensus where we are perhaps trying to agree, find a truth or should I say understand what makes sense out of values/desirability.
The further one delves into the why's and wherefores all one is bound to discover is our own individual perspectives and it is only this sort of thread that causes these ideas to surface.
There is surely the emotive issue that creates our enthusiasm and there is the financial aspect that enables us to pursue or otherwise.
Finance and emotion are individual to each of us in different ways, always interesting to recieve anothers view to challenge our beliefs which may or may not have a bearing but at the end of the day we each make our own decisions which need no consenses or general agreement.

While on the subject and perhaps suiting your point is that there recently was a -standard- E34 M5 with -low- mileage for sale from a car dealer in Germany for an asking price MUCH more than EUR 20.000 but most likely the car is still not sold. If I find the add I do not mind giving the details if that serves a purpose. It is an 'Individual' car but still.
Silver 3.8 with Individual Tobagoblau Volleder, <1500km was for sale by www.kleissler-automobile.de and no longer appears on their website.
