As dark clouds gather above Aberdeen, simultaneously ominous thoughts surrounding the ***** star (as she's now affectionately known) have amassed in my head.
...it seems that the swap can be done with relative simplicity, or am I missing something? Has anyone performed such a conversion more recently?
The other option is to fit the 3.8 head and some other ancilleries but this wont address the lack of low down torque without a re bore or stroker kit (if such exists).
What is the concensus for upgrading the 3.6 versus swapping for a 3.8?
You need a healthy 3.8 to make it worthwhile, the loom, ecu...
pretty much a front end from a donor car really..
That won't come cheap (unless you are in good circles !!! )
So I guess I'm thinking its almost cheaper just to cut losses & buy a 3.8car
complete ?
Regards,
Alan.

^^ A valid point, but I'm going by the assumption that most cheaper 3.8's will need work also.
I'm happy with the colour and spec of my car, I guess I could just do with a bit more grunt.
Also, owing to the way the project will be financed, it's not possible to chuck a large amount of cash at a car, whereas throwing smaller amounts each month into my 3.6 would be easier.
there is a company in the US called metric mechanic, who sells complete rebuilt engines. They advertise in the club magazines etc. They're current ad shows a rebuilt, bored/ stroked 3.9 for the price of $12,995 US. At the current exchange rate, that seems pretty cheap to me for you guys in the UK, though shipping and taxes may eat up the savings. Then you'd not need to change anything electronically in the 3.6 car.

My Dinan 3.9 is rated 410hp 360lbft from Dinan.
These figures ended up being about 15hp 20tq higher than what we ended up with on the dyno.
A high flow fuel system, some head work a custom tune, increased rpm range will put this motor in the 440hp range.
Highly recommend the stroker kit, especially with billet knifedged crankshaft and the forged components. The weight savings is immediately noticeable the first time you rev the motor. Gobs of torque all over the rpm range.
