I was originally looking at a pair of Recaro CS seats

á la the new BMW Motorsport catalogue.
However once I tried sitting in them I realised they weren't particularly supportive for my larger/lardy build.

I was persuaded to try the Recaro Pole Position ABEs

in the same shop instead - MUCH better. I enquired about buying a set in beige alcantara - but they couldn't give me a sensible price (£400-£800 each with rails & mounts for adjustability/tilting) or timescale (8-26 weeks ) so I walked.

Have put the seat upgrade on hold for now as I'm not using the car much whilst working in Dubai.

The Pole Position ABE is a TUV approved version of the Pole Position race seat, but has special adaptations to use a normal lap belt.

There's a bit more width to it around where the lap strap goes over, but I was surprised at how I still fitted in it - I thought it would be as small & tight as a Caterham Tillet seat.

A couple of pics from BMWCC Donington Track Day :

I must believe that I am a better driver than I actually am , because I convinced myself that I nearly rescued this situation , when the pictures appear to suggest that I was nowhere near keeping us on the track !

Steve seems to think we are just going for a cruise up the high street , judging his arm out of the window pose that nearly got us black flagged :

I managed to lose the back , stamping hard on the throttle exiting the 2nd gear chicane , chasing an E36 M3 :

Again , I told Steve that I had almost saved this spin , when in actual fact , we were lucky that I never put us into the pit wall !

Richard B's lovely LHD 3.8 :

Dave,

If you're adamant that you want to do so much off roading I have a V8 Land Rover for sale.

(Sorry if this appears to be taking a commercial slant; not intended.)
