Does anyone have a used Getrag 280?

Looking for a used Getrag 280 for sale. If anyone has one or knows of any out there it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi mate

Have you got a broken 280 to fix?

I haven't got a 280 but if you're near the Midlands the company I'm recommending in a thread today (transmission specialist recommendation) may be able to help you. They tell me if my box is a mess they can source and recon a 280 for very reasonable money. If it can be fixed they're the ones to do it.

Failing that the OE box from BMW could be worse value, for once!

Cheers, Anwar

Well I am in a time crunch, and i can recoup half of what i spent by returning parts (more then 2K). A rebuild is actually not very cost or time effective for me. It would be cheaper to just order a refabricated one from bmw or get a used one then get this one rebuilt. But thanks for the heads up!
Sincerely, Robert Kay

I purchased a factory rebuilt unit from Gebhart in Boulder just last year for my 3.8 M5.They gave me a big discount(BMWCCA member). They had to get it shipped from Germany but once we got it ordered(there was a "miscommunication"),it was here in a few weeks.Expensive but it shifts great.Good luck.

Haha thats really random. I'm a regular at Gebhardt BMW and actually worked there this last summer. I'd love to get in touch, with two M5 owners in the area, well I thought I was the only one! Anyways , go Buffs!

transmission

Have you found your transmission yet? You will settle for a used one? I'm assuming 6 spd. 1.800.775.2710, company name is LKQ Atlanta, they claim 130K miles and want $1100.00, good luck and happy motoring

Gee thanks Geoff.

I've just stopped work on mine for the evening. I was defeated by the lack of a third hand ... That damn Torx bolt up top is hard to get to without an extra person - or the $80 flexi shaft that I saw a while back and should have bought. I can get the Torx socket onto it - with about a metre of extensions - which all fall apart without the slave to help.

That, and the six or so easy to get to bottom bolts and my gearbox will be out.
