Going Rate For 3.8 Engine
Gents,
What is the going rate for a 3.8 complete engine in the UK?
Will it fit directly into the 3.6 engine bay?
What electical mods are necessary?
Should I just buy a 3.8?
Sean.

You will need more than just the engine assembly if you intend to
fit into E34 //M5 3.6 vehicle.
Try a main front engine harness & DME for starters, MAF etc.
Then, exhaust manifold & wire knit metal matrix cats as std on 3.8.
(3.6 cats can be used but are more restrictive but light off quicker)
I would buy a 3.8 vehicle if thats your ultimate aim.

Seriously. Have located 3.8 engine on Ebay in Redruth. Have friend who prepares race engines. Would like to blueprint 3.8 and put it in current chassis as I've become attached to it.

i would think the added complexity would come from the 3.8's ignition system and it's DME. If you run the 3.6 distributor and keep the 3.6 dme, a remap should get things sorted, imho. Perhaps i'm oversimplifying.
In the US, dinan among other tuners did "stroker" engines, resulting in 3.8 - 3.9 Litre capacity, often using the 3.8's larger throttle bodies and exhaust system.

"Caveat Emptor"
A side, there are integration issues unless you run a stand alone aftermarket
engine management system.
The B36 Bosch DME supports a default check of the intake system @ keyon.
The functionality of the intake step points for both vehicles is not the same.
The B38 cal also turns the flap at an additional point in the rpm range.
I believe a B36 eprom & DME will not run a B38 & maintain full functionality
There are additional calibration values within the B38 DME @ 2,300 rpm not
supported by the older 3.6 Bosch DME.
Good luck.

I wonder if it's the same engine that was in Dan's ( Geach ) bro's avus 3.8 with only 56t miles on it ?
Personally , at today's prices , I would buy a 3.8 car complete .

Could be. It is out of an Avus Blue 3.8. It's on Ebay and includes ECU etc..
Question. How much better is 3.8 over 3.6?

Yes
I know that a certain pair of Dutchmen privately crave for the exclusive look
of Anus Blue
One of them bought an " Orient Blau" by mistake after a hard session in one
the local coffee shops

Any hints on what key words to search under. 3.6 vs 3.8 doesn't turn up anything or other variants using more or less of the engine code.
Sorry to cover old ground but it is all new to me.
