Track Days: any pro's to removing the highbeam?
Are there any benefits to removing the highbeam light and allowing air to the intake for track days? Any significant power, or low end increase? What if it is a fast track and you see multiple 100+mph straights, would that speed hurt things?
There are a few track days coming up and Im just curious if its something I should look into.
Thanks

Don't bother!
The n/s light is dead ahead of the airbox so any flow will be blocked anyway.
The o/s light is slightly better positioned, but will possibly only slightly cool the washer bottle and your valve cover.
Any power/increase will be negligible - might as well take a laxitive and **** between each session.

Um, nothing blocks my airbox if the highbeam headlight is removed
you can see the filter from the front of the car.
Im just worried that there could be too much force when on those fast straights

Sorry, I assumed you had a snorkel which picks up air from lower down in the engine bay

race teams and frequent weekend racers have been doing it on E30's and E36's for years...........there must be a benefit when screaming down the front stretch and the engine begging for more air...........or under high load in high RPM's.........it couldn't hurt as far as I know..........you are just pressurizing the plenum with a charge of air less restricted that can either be utilized or not.........with the air mass meter in place, I don't think a lean condition could ever occur due to this........my 2 cents......hp/torque benefits = unknown

I'm told that the most efficient place for air to get into the engine bay is via the headllight positions (some physicist demonstrated this on a NASCAR racer (the only racecar remotely approaching an e34 m5 in weight)) and for every 11 degrees F you can cool the air coming into the motor you get rewarded with at least 1 bhp.

Indeed they do - but not with the standard airbox!
I'd say leave the entire intake system alone - it's a work of art.
Common failing on Hondas (also great intakes) is to try and better Honda's design - it always loses power ot makes a nasty hole in the power ...
I'd worry more about brake cooling for trackdays than engine power

Completely unrelated (sorry!), With the Honda airbox is it worth taking out the resonator box to improve airflow?

I took mine out Ralph and ran a bit of central heating pipe down to the front airdam, but I'm up from about 190BHP on my ITR to about 230BHP .... it doesn't seem to make any difference on standard engines
