No, they are BMW Sport Seats. Not Recaro's as used in e28 and e30, or in SR form in the e34.
BTW if that is really a 1988 and a LHD in AUS it's probably the oldest in Aus, and one of the oldest here. What's the last 7 digits of the VIN? And how did you register a LHD in Aus?
production date 20/9/1988. first rego 13/12/1988.
last 7 digits: 2899576
in two of australia's states you can licence a LHD car. lucky i live in one of those two. and its not licenced. it needs to be complianced then licenced but instead, i ve decided to part it out.

According to the build sheet that car was sold with Buffalo leather "Siam grey", is it still Buffalo? I always have hard to tell nappa from Buffalo on photos.
Are there more LHD M5s around in any of these states you mention?
not sure if they re buffalo or not. are they worth more than leather?
is there anything on or under the seats to let me know what they are? the seats match the door trims and centre console so it might be the original buffalo seats?
another guy on this forum "DREAM5" is also from here. there are more M5's here in Australia, but quite a few are RHD.
Buffalo leather is usually a bit more expensive. It used to cost more to order as well.
But I cannot tell if its buffalo or not from these photos. The texture of buffalo is usually richer and it is often somewhat harder than the normal nappa leather. Maybe if you can shoot some detailed photos?
