Apparently my M5T (BL01842) '95 has no EDC! The front struts and the solenoid valves are there inlcuding the switch on the dash with the light working in both postions but.........NO wiring (can't even find them in the wheelhouse) to the solenoid valves whatsoever

In my humble opinion this could only mean two things! The dampers were gone some time ago and replaced with aftermarket shocks unsing the original struts or....the just removed the wiring for some reason

. This would mean if I understand correctly that ALL dampers have the default firm setting, even if the reardampers would work.

The general feel of the suspension especially with higher speeds is quit ok although it does feel very firm.
With very low speeds over bumps you can feel the front struts knocking... At the rear it feels as if there were blade springs mounted like in a truck.

I have a general urge to make the car as original as possible but that would probably mean replacing all the 4 EDC suspensions

.....or NOT??

I suspect you've simply missed the wires ?

I would be supprised if you didn't have an EDC warning if the wires
we cut....

This is amazingly strange.

If the legs have the actuators, it would be plain to see if a wire comes from it.

If it doesn't have the actuators,it certainly lacks EDC !!

Normally, if there is any sensor off line within the EDC system, inc speed
signal from diff or solenoids on dampers etc, the whole unit will go offline & flag
a recurring error on the IC OBC display via the SI board on ignition start up.
The program switch will NOT be lit.

Unfortunately....
You can prevent the OBC feed to the IC cluster flagging an EDC offline fault
& still run a lit program switch.
It requires the person doing this to know enough to able to fix the problems
but not necessarily wanting to spend the money to do so.
If any of the core EDC function parts are missing or faulty, they are
hugely expensive to replace.

Therfore I would suggest getting the vehicle to a BMW station or a specialist.
Ask for fault diagnosis of EDC codes.
They will be able to communicate with EDC module & ping the sensors.
If someone has been devious, the module will not respond.
(Module, relay & supporting fuse are under seat ?)
If the EDC is live & responding, the fault will be read, if any fault exists.

If you intend to maintain or restore EDC, I would suggest the above will
give you an idea of investment reqd.

I can assure you that the actuators or at least the 2 shapes at the base of the damper in which the actuators should be situated are there. It's sealed with something like a rubber or pastic screw button but.....NO wires to be seen anywhere near or to it!!! and yes..there are no warnings at the OBC or intrument panel and the the EDC switch light is indeed working....
