Avus 6 speed 3.8 on Autotrader

I am suprised that this car :

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...r=&max_mileage=

has never been mentioned on here in recent weeks .....

It's a late 94 ( prod Oct 94 ) , First registered May 95 , 6 speed 3.8 , advertised as low as £5495 up until this week when the price has been raised again .

Farrell offers a great service , whereby he will Inspect a car fully on a potential buyer's instruction , advising what exactly is required . This is of particular importance to an E34 M5 newbie who may not be aware of the potential problem areas contained within an apparently decent looking car .

Even I , who have owned more than a few of these beauties , employed the services of young Farrell , when he arrived at my house yesterday morning at 6:50 a.m. before jumping in my E28 M5 for a drive to Chester to look at the above mentioned car , which I considered to seem too good to be true .....hence paying Darren to come along with diagnostics , jack , groovy Adidas tracksuit et al !

The dealer was very hospitable initially , allowing us to thoroughly inspect the vehicle , even providing a four post hoist for us to look underneath with ease . A fair bit of work was required to bring the car up to scratch although it was by no means totally neglected .

I decided to walk away and Darren was in total agreement , as we believe that the past 2 years haven't been entirely kind to this particular car .

I can provide more specific detail if anyone requires , although I don't wish to slate the car or the relatively genuine dealer that is attempting to sell her .

Farrell and I had fun anyway , driving the E28 M5 for over 470 miles and 8 hours , eating KFC , taking the M6 Toll Road at decent velocity and even chatting to board members via telephone randomly during the day .

I must admit to being extremely disappointed in this particular car and in not bringing a decent E34 M5 home with me though , as I don't wish to be using an E28 M5 on our forthcoming Ring trip in early April .......fingers crossed I can find a decent one before then .....Pfinucane seems to want to keep Mauritius Maria now I have moved .....bloody typical !

Nice to hear you and Farrell were reunited for another road trip!!!

Shame about the car not being up to scratch.

I hear that a late model touring might be coming on the market soon....watch this space!

Cheers Jon .....

I personally have no interest in a Touring ....great as they are !

Vixpy , you are sooooo right .....unfortunately we are seeing more than a few cars coming onto the market purely because the previous owner has reached the point where all the servicable items ( control arms , pitman arms , tyres , brakes etc ) require renewal .

Several of the cars that I have purchased recently have fallen into this category , requiring much time and expense to put right .

It comes as no suprise that the majority of sellers are not willing to sell the car immediately after servicing , as no apparent value has been added to the car . Most would far rather advertise the car as a minter and hope that the potential buyer does not spot all of the work required .

This phenomenon justifies employing the services of a reputable specialist imo should any potential buyer be unsure of the intracacies of these cars and not wish to buy themselves into a huge servicing bill !

Ive found prices VERY cheap lately, pre/post christmas time always lowers as people want money in their pockets not on the drive.

I find a lot of MINT cars are that, POLO MINT!

That one has Wood trim!! WTF?

Good points Stevey mac , especially the one re Faz's shooting ability .......I hear that he didn't win his last competition recently , only finishing 2nd .....absolute rubbish !

The LE looks interesting and I have spoken to the seller recently .....my only reservation is that it is the one that Drencher nearly got killed over and didn't speak too highly about ........

I called him aswell and it seems as if one of the wheel arches has a bit of rust and I think the driver and passenger doors need attention at the bottom of the doors. He was apparently quoted at least £600 to get it put right. The EDC hasn't been done recently either. So an inspection woul definately be in order there!
