Please help miss firing on S38B36 on my E30M3 Need Help

Hello there I just complete my S38 B36 engine swap in my E30 M3 and I just love it S38 is lovely engine.

Engine was working very good! When enigne installed in the car I started for about 10sec without water just in working progres to see that everything is going corect right.

Now after we conect everything when I run about 2000rpm and hold it there you can clearly hear it from the mufler how its not working clear, and its making that noise from a missfire. The car has full power and it runs perfect, just changed the spark plugs, Disributor cap rotor, Now waiting for new engine wires not yet installed.

During the conversion I install K@n air filter and were is the Air Mass flow meter there is like a net, and this net is a litle bit cut off I wander is it from there ????

Please help !

Based on my own experience of a similar problem I would suggest that you verify that you have completely filled the tube with cooling water on both sides of the thermostat (rught hand side of the engine).
I had an air pocket there. I opened the "screw" that the hose to/from the expansion tank is connected to at it blew out quite a lot of air. There is a very smalll hole in the bottom of the "screw" and it may be clogged and that prevents air from leaving the tube.
There are two temp sensors, one on each side of the thermostat and if one is "in air" and not in water and the other one is, there will be significant difference in the information sent to the central unit and it will give a very confusing running. I could hardly start the engine and as soon as it got a bit warm it tried to stop working. When the air was out of the system everything was back to normal.

Best o luck.

Misfiring needs trial-and-error

First, get rid of the K&N.

then,

check for correct TB synchro

check plugs and change if doubt

clean (cam) & crank sensors but replace is better

Check all vacuum of the engine

check independent ignition coil failure

Wout, it's a 3.6, so no coil packs.

Could be failing HT leads as well.

Regards

Ivan

I meant the independent coil that the 3.6 has that fires up the distr cap, or isn't his an ignition coil by name?

Leads are indeed v possible.

Intersting bit of information ilundber. I haven't heard of that problem causing that symptom before (or possibly forgotten). The part you refer to has been mentioned in the past and I recently started a thread as a reminder for some of our new members, here - Engine check
