Acceptable compression #s

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking around the boards for a little over a year now, keeping my eyes out for the right car and reading up on the cars.

And finally, I'm quite possibly going to be joining many of you as the new owner of an E34 M5.

The vehicle I'm looking at purchasing is a 1991 3.6 with slightly over 100,000 miles. It has service records from new showing it to be religiously maintained, and looks (from pictures) to be very well taken care of. I got in contact with the owner and set the car up to be PPI'd and have a compression test done as well.

I was called with the results today: All cylinders read pretty evenly, 165 being the lowest and the highest being in the low 170s.

Happy that they're all relatively even, I'm just curious what is to be made of the numbers themselves, if anything.

The test was done in an area about 30 ft. above sea level, in fairly warm weather, about 3 hours after the car was dropped off at the dealership that performed the test.

TIA,

Coleman

Hi
Thats a good compression test.
Theres nothing wrong with those leak down numbers.
11 bar lowest
11.5 bar highest...
Stop worrying.
If the rest of the car matches the even comp results, what are you waiting
for ?

Farrell

picture and info removed due to some sneaky folks trying to buy this car right out from under me, when I've already paid for a PPI, compression test, and plane tickets to go pick it up.

Shame on those who would try to do such a thing.

I am very sorry to hear this.
Unfortunately, you get a lot of lurking unseen traffic to the Board
generally.

Similar occurance in UK not long ago.

If I find out that it was a member of this Board however,
they will no longer be welcome here

Thanks for the support, Mr. Farrell .

I'm lucky enough to have an honest seller that conducts business as we all should...with morals.

I fly bright and early tomorrow to go pick her up and return home, so no matter. I'll be sure to post my impressions and questions after the 900 mile, 13 hour drive home. Very excited to say the least!

Almost sounds like the experience I had when buying my car. I was going to buy my car from about 3,750 miles away and drive it back. A week or so before I was going to hop on the plane he asked me if I bought the plane ticket yet.

I said "yes, why do you ask?"

Turns out he would've told me that the car was no longer for sale and he would've kept it. But since he said he was going to sell it to me and I bought the ticket already that'd he'd stand by what he said and sell me the car.

And I never even had to mention I'd bought a 1 way non-refundable ticket as a measure of reassurance that I was going to buy the car and had no thought of doing otherwise. Afterall, I'd waited 2 1/2 years for one of these to come up for sale, there was no way I was going to let this one slip by me.

Nice to know that there's at least a few stand up people out there still...

Indeed .

She's now in my hands and made the 900 mile drive back home without much trouble...what an amazing car for the highways! Had a blast.

The fans sure are a bit wacky though. Seem to have a mind of their own.
