If the car has a higher mileage than the engine, I regard this as a scam.

I am getting sick and tired of this nonsense. Like the engine is the only part of the car. If you'd replace the EDC, 345mm rotors , 4 tyres , the regular due maintenance and some paintwork (and believe me, 80% of the cars out there need this and probably more!) you're on the same money as an engine swap, so why not list it as BRAND NEW when that's been done?

In holland, only gypsy's advertise cars like that. BMW employee or not, this is not acceptable IMO. Wake up. 85k or 195k.. Car should cost considerably less than 10k IMO. I maintain a 92 Touring with 185k on it which could be considered condition 1-2 if € 250 was spent on the paintwork. I don't think it would make anywhere near 10k.

Another thing is the whole #1 chassis talk. Who cares? I personally don't think it gives the car any added value. The same thing with the Alpina's.Some examples I gathered from ads in 2007: "This is the ex-Burkhard Bovensiepen car!!" "This is one of only 17 B8's made in this color!!" " This is the ONLY B12 with purple leather in combination with no-sunroof and a wooden gearknob!!!" "This car features in the Alpina folder!!!"

Get real people. They're rare cars. Period. I don't know how many Sebring Grey 3.6 with cruisecontrol climatecontrol silbergrau hell leather + steeringwheel centre are made, but the odds are that its less than 10. Does it make my car worth a dime more than the next Avus with grey alcantara? No.

I agree with you totally Wout.............except, of course the comment about the gypsies.

Know a couple of "gypsies" in Holland, though they don't have cars to sell if they did they would be forthright about it.

Cheers

Wout,

The car is not owned by that former BMW MT employee anymore as he sold it in winter 2005/2006 (if my memory serves me right) for conciderable less money then the current asking price. The current owner spent the car a full repaint and if the quality is good (i.e. body condition 1-2), and the rest of the car checks out OK too (condition 3 or better) then IMHO, the asking price is justified.

However, if the EDCIII is worn, it's value is much less indeed. But as allways with these cars. It's a sellers market and buyer beware.

Ray

you're not seriously saying that a 92 car with good paint and an engine swap 85.000 km ago is worth € 13900?

Where are Ebbers, Pigapumbo and Legacy260 when you need them

Wout@
did you have the 'Stormy Monday Blues' already at 02:52 a.m. ??
I agree with you on most issues but if the price is justified or not depends on
what the market will allow and of course also on how much that was reallly
professionally restored (not repared) on the car -
if the first VIN (it is the 2nd build) etc. does make a difference is up to the eventual buyer (for some people these things matter and it is a free world) -
-
Please, Wout, perhaps it is my fault to even have mentioned it, BUT the BMW
employee has NOTHING to do with this car being out for sale anymore.
As Raymond correctly states, the car was sold to the present owner for a far
lower price a long time ago and BEFORE the car was put back to former glory
to an extend not known.
-
perhaps you have had the chance to get some sleep by now and the 'Stormy Monday Blues' is over..... as said, I agree with you on most issues but please leave that BMW-guy out of it, he is not inolved ('ok' - I shud NOT have mentioned it !!!)

Wout@
you if anyone shud be aware that 'what it is worth' has nothing to do with what money anyone is likely to pay for it in the end -
depending on the extend and quality of the restauration-work -it could- be worth the money asked but on the other hand it seems that no one is apparantly prepared to pay that money for this car and thus -the problem will solve itself- and if the seller indeed gets the money he is asking for = congratulations (but it won't be from you or me right ?

Maybe I sound a bit harsh but IMO there should be a halt to advertising this way. When I was advertising cars myself (sometimes up to 10 on 6 different internetsites per day!) I got sick aswell from the 5 cheapest entries having "something" seriously deceiving in the ad. Cars being advertised without mileage at all, cars being advertised with options they dont have (92 M5 with traction control!!) etc.

People appear to think that trying to sell a car like that is "all in the game" , but it gives car sellers the bad name I've always tried to steer clear of.

Sorry to overreact, but thats just the way I feel. Its impossible to draw quick shortlists from Mobile.de or other sites since ones needs to meticulously search through each and every ad for misinforming these days.
