BMW BUSINESS CD PLAYER RADIO CD43

HI

I am thinking of changing the stock head unit in my M5 for a new CD43 one. MY questions are is this a direct plug and play and will this unit work with a Ipod?

Thanks
Jack

Yes it is plug and play.

If you haven't got the original connector in your car (ie if the connector has been changed to the ones Pioneer, Sony etc. use ) you can buy an adapter at your local BMW dealer.

No direct Ipod connection i'm afraid. But there seem to possibilities connecting it through the I-Bus which normally connects the 6CD changer... http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/224145 google is your best friend.

This stereo looks pretty freaking good in your car ! (got it myself )

Cheers
Ray

i recently installed one of these in my 91 model year (3/90 production) car. There is some wire splicing to do. I do think there is an ipod adapter that plugs directly into the 17 pin ibus connector at the back of the cd43, try to find the recent thread on this board, there is a link in it.
There was a post a month or so ago, i went thru which wire went to what. In that post, i missed the illumination wire, which goes to the orange wire on my connector.
In my car there was a page in the oe stereo users guide that listed the wire functions for the original stereo, but this is posted on the internet. If you google bmw cd43 you should find a couple more write ups for the install.

The factory harness in the car is pretty decently marked, LF+, LF- etc. You can either get the harness from the dealer or off ebay pretty cheaply (many of the ebay harnesses are factory connectors, the part that plugs into the back of the cd43, just cut out of the donor car).

I installed this set up in my 92 J-spec (Euro) M5. I ordered the DICE iPOD interface from:
http://www.europeanautosource.com/in...p?cPath=42_136
I also ordered the 17 pin adaptor that plugs into the CD43 directly without the need for iBUS and ran the iPOD from in the glovebox. This is plug and play with no splicing. One quirk though, somtimes the CD43 will not recognize the iPOd and the system has to be rebooted (remove radio fuse). I have read on the net that the workaround is to always remember to put the CD43 in FM mode before shutting the car off. As my M5 is currently snoozing foor the winter, I will check out the theory in the spring. Otherwise it works a treat, songs and artists appear in the CD43 dispay ad the iPOd is controlled from the CD 43 as well.

My car is a 91 (9/90 build date) One other question is does this car have a factory amp or is it in the head unit? I curentily get a his out of the radio at low volume levals.
I like the Idea of the DICE iPOD interface. looks like the easy/best way out.

Thanks for the info
Jack
