Ac Schnitzer??

What is Ac Schnitzer, I heard it is a BMW upgrade, but besides the Ac Schnitzer written on the side of the car and on the rims, I cant see much difference between my AC Schnitzer and other 1989 5 series bimmers

Depends on how far the original owner wanted to go.
Via BMW dealers, you can get AC spoilers, wheels, interior trim, exhausts etc.
However, you can go the whole hog, and get AC (Germany) themselves to do an engine, gearbox upgrade (such as the case with Alpuina)
I think the car is then classed as an S2 or 3 dependent on the final spec applied to the car. These are, as you'd expect pretty quick motors.

Ac-Schnitzer is a very well known Bmw tuner. We have an original S5 2.7 ( based on the 525i M20B25 engine ) in the garage. The car 'only' has 200 bhp but the suspension setup is excellent. That it is why It can easily beat more powerfull cars in the track.

I don't know about their reliability as ours is only 42k km but I suppose they are as reliable as any bimmer.

Do you have the body kit on yours or what ?

It has ground effects and a nice spoiler, but I don't know if thats part of a Ac Schnitzer upgrade. as far as handling it doesn't handle the best. It sways a little to the left and right, not constantly just on bad roads, and I've been told by several garages that it is the size of the tyre, which brings me to another question did Ac Shnitzer also upgrade the tyres to 17" 235's from its original 15" and why is it so hard to find info on a 1989 530i?

As far as I know, Ac-Schnizer didn't do engine/gearbox etc mods for the 530i. If I'm not wrong they did mod for the 525i ( 2.7 engine, 200 hp) and 535i ( 3.7 engine, 262 bhp ) and nothing more. In 1991 when the new 24 valve engine replaced the old 12 valve engine of the 525i, the did offer mods for this one too. This one had 230 bhp.

Of course, you could buy Ac-Schnitzer wheels and suspension for any E34. Perhaps this is your case.

Hope this helps.
