Took the M5..

For a run up the road today...

Reminded me just how good a car it is. Side ways action on demand!

looking forward to getting it all fixed, so I can drive it in real anger again!

Oh, and for the HID conversion, Is it an H1 low beam kit i need?

Cheers,

Charlie

i do know the 'low beam' as we call it in the US is an H1. I recently did the euro lamp swap on my e34, believe it or not, the north american spec light is even worse that what you guys get. That said, now that i have the euro lights, i will agree they too are crap, but at least they're focused crap, rather than the blob of light our US lights throw.

H1 bulbs on dip, main & fog lights - might as well do them all then

Hi
H1 stub to D2S capules work well only on dip light or foglights.
I have them in both locations on my own car.
They work well & make the main beam redundant in most conditions.

The light off time to fire the bulb when energised for Automotive o/e
application is 4secs to full brightness & 8 secs for Agri application.
Thats 24Kv @ start & around 8Kv once past this initial 4-8 sec period.

I would not recommend capsules for the main beam unless you make a
Bi-xenon halide shutter system allowing low beam to power high beam as well.
It can be done for E34 but is not commercially available at last investigation.

This avoids the slow fire up associated with Halide 35W capsules which would be
useless for the little acutal run time a main beam unit sees.
Also, flashing is accomplished using the main beam units.
This feature along with short run times associated with main beam Halide Hid
units will seriously shortten capsule life & will accelerate the generic
dimming of the bulb capsule encountered beyond 2,500 hrs.
You will be looking at bulb capsule life @ 10% of this normally accepted
run time.

Lots of rapid switching on & off of Halide bulb capsules with the first
100 odd hours of run time will adversely affect overall life run time.

Poor or inconsistant voltage feed from bad wiring to the ballasts will shorten
the life of bulb & blow the ballast circuitry.
Your vehicles wiring must be in good condition to allow proper safe interface
to power the ballast.

Hard shocks or impacts to ballast casing will fracture the circuit board.

Cheer
Farrell
