edc question

can someone explain this.. am i right in thinking that on my 3.8 with automatic switching of the suspension firmness when the ecu realises that it needs to stiffen up the suspension it turns on the magnets and the iron filings group together making the suspension firmer..my question is how does it know when to change it back?? how long does it stay firm??

You're thinking of the new Audi suspension - the BMW EDC suspension uses valves to restrict the flow of fluid.

It stays firm for as long as the sensors say it needs too - once you slow down and/or stop doing the twisties, it will return to normal.

It can firm up in fractions of a second if the EDC unit
detects sudden movements from the accelerometers & steering angle sensor.

It also reads vehicle speed & firms up accordingly.

From experience I have noticed that after hard driving the car tends to
stay firm for maybe 30sec - 1 minute before softening up again.

How are you getting on with the car by the way ?
