Suspension

Hi,
Looking for some help/advice please, own a 3.8 and all dampers have been found to be leaking during the mot.

Looking to change to aftermarket suspension, have done loads of searches but I am now more confused than before

Will dinan suspension directly replace the original? i know edc needs to be removed but talk of 535 struts??

also what would you guys recommend going for? not that botherd about comfort as car is not used every day just weekend drives and odd track day.

One last thing can anyone recomend a dealer of suspension and any rough prices??

Car is booked on track day on the 12th so has to be done by then

Any help would be great please......

IIRC Dinan suspension is Koni and they don;t fit into the rear without 535 top mounts and the front EDC struts won't take anything properly but EDC. So you'll need other struts aswell.

Whether or not you should delete EDC has been beaten to ***** here. Do a search for 500.000 threads.

Wout

In particular, look for a thread by Kurt Ramsden (who was the previous owner of my M5) as he replaced EDC with AC Schnitzer suspension - once the bills added up it was as expensive as fitting new EDC

Did it actually fail the MOT on leaking dampers, or was it an advisory that they were seeping?

It will take weeks to get the parts, so it doesn't look likely that you'll be doing the event on the 12th.

If they've gone to the hardest setting, then they'll be fine for the track - as long as it's a smooth one

If they didn't fail the MOT and you've got no EDC warning, I'd guess they're just seeping - and maybe the harshness over bumps is due to something else

Hi tomroche........if the car feels pattery at the front over rough surfaces then your springs could do with changing ...

Hello tom, I recall that 'Cyrus' rated using koni dampers with h+r springs on his 3.6. IIRC, front top adjustable dampers were around £130 each and full set of h+r's are around £250. Cyrus / Sal, also sells these parts. As the guys have mentioned, you'd have to get a couple of standard front struts to put the front damper inserts in before you can get them on the car.
With the current price of edc units from the dealers at neigh on £800 a pop, I think the altenative route will be a solution seen on a few 3.8s.
