Blown Head Gasket....NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So, Santa dumped a lump of coal in my stocking this year with a blown head gasket.

Instead of simply replacing necessary parts, I'm going to have the whole engine rebuilt. Top to bottom, left to right.

My question is, what do you think of upgrading to the Korman Stage 2 rebuild kit? What do you think this would do to long term value of the car? Has ayone done, seen this?

As always, opinions (and prayers ) are appreciated!

Hope everyone had a better christmas than I have had.

I will keep this thread updated as the work begins.

Cheers

Bad luck old chap.
How many miles has the engine done.
Is it just a failed gasket & head skim ?
Is this cause or symptoms of another related system failing ?

As for "stage 2".
I do not understand what this entails.
Doubt that any value will be be added.
Either way, understanding why the headgasket failed would be intially
of more concern.

I sincerely hope that the car gets repaired satisfactorily.
Best wishes.

That's a bummer. It's pretty expensive, but Jim Rowe at www.metricmechanic.com builds amazing engines, from what I hear...

Got prices for the Korman, too much for me upwards of 5000 for kit. alothough it puts out 373hp.

Just got it to the shop today, working on trying to figure out what caused failure, I'm guessing over heating problems as we were waiting for aux. heater pump (the one on the left side of engine compartment by windscreen) to come to replace. 146,000 on the clock, and with the amount of work i have already done to this car, the person before me must have abused the crap out of it. regardless, this is what will be done over the next 2-3 mos:

-Full engine rebuild, block going out to machine shop for polishing etc.
-researching stroker kits and upgraded cams at this time for upgrades.
-newer top end if indeed cracked, unsure yet
-Dinan stage 2 suspenion eliminate sls (Bilstein)
-all new control arms around, bushings, etc.
-fix rust on bottom of left doors, repaint
-delete aftermarket spoiler that came with car (not factory) repaint boot lid, rear quarters
-install cd43 business cd radio

pics will be up regarding rebuild as i get them. opinions ideas while things are apart are appreciated. also lets start taking bets on final cost in USD.

Since you don't seem to be too upset and you're probably gonna have everything done i'd say $ 12.000

Actually metric mechanic is somewhere along the range of USD10k to 12k so it might be worth a shot. But I think they need a core deposit for your engine. Not really sure if you have to exchange your engine for theirs. Keep us posted though.

Update:

Head gasket blown due to over heating problems from leaking aux heater pump. Head appears to be ok, no cracks or warping.

Just purchased for the rebuild:
-Dinan Stage two suspension elimnate sls with bilsteins
-dinan exhaust cam sproket
-dinan chip
-dinan short throw kit

Totals 11 points so i get a badge for the boot.

I looked into upgrading the cams. Shrick cams via Korman $1000 USD for each. intake cam nets about 15 BHP, and the exhuast cam nets about 10 bhp. so right now im going to pass, but it will be an upgrade in the next 2 to 3 years.

I;m throwing a centerforce 2 clutch in as well, I had one of these in my wrangler when i was four wheeling, its a grea clutch, holds up real nice under extreme condtions, I used to go rock crawling at Paragon Adventure park in PA.

Anyway, I'll be posting pics soon of the engine and rebuild stages along with the parts. Cheers and happy motoring
