Any advice

After shelling out 2 grand on tyres and front shocks this month some nice chap decided to embed his 406 coupe in my front passenger door.

Anyone had any major body repairs. Anything I should look out for
before I accept it back.

It is going to an approved BMW bodyshop. The cost to his insurance is likely to be 4000ish.

Can't be of any help but I can certainly sympathise after some idiot decided that my black 93 M5 Touring would look better with a red Vauxhall Astra instead of an engine. The bodyshop stopped counting at £15k and decided the car was beyond economical repair (they hadn't even started repainting it at that point).

Anyway six months later I found my current Beast and, 14 months on it finally looks as though the third party is going to admit liabilty (should blood well think so too!) and the insurance can be settled once and for all.

Good luck!

Yes,

Get a list of the work quoted for, they have to break it down and fax it to the insurers, so getting a copy is no problem.

Make sure that apart form the obvious repair to the door, that the car has a BMW KDS alignment check listed there.

It is remarkably easy to bend the chassis, even in a low speed accident, and if there is a problem, then it must corrected by either jigging the car at a UK price of £1400 ($2000?) to correct it and quite possibly special offset rear trailing arms, as no adjustment is normally possible at the rear. The KDS check will tell you

If it is just the door, then you will not need this, but if anything has happened to the door sill, hinge, mounts or A/B pillars, then this is a must have.
