Balls!

Following a visit to Mr Crouch, the news is not good

My badly corroded fuel lines have as i suspected, split ,

Basically its a back axle/diff off and all the suspension and fuel lines are to be done, while its off i'm having the diff seals done, and my rusty spot on the rear of the sills done, also the sill covers and bumper bottoms repainted in the orig silver, and the alloys refurbed.

However i've got other projects that need the money at the moment, and Phil can't fit in such a bit job for a while, so i've taken it to the polish car wash, had it cleaned, and parked it up outside work, where it will stay until the new year.

Still, at least i've got the M3 to tool around in

I had all of this done when I bought mine - it went almost immediately I handed the money over to Kurt (that was a joke, Kurt, if you're reading this!).

Good thing is it will all do me for the lifetime of the car now - I know everything at the rear is solid ....

And as you say - you have other wheels

I fitted new fuel lines to my 525IA in about 5 hours.

Just bought some 8mm Copper pipe, 1m 12bar rubber fuel pipe, some hose clambs

Dident pull down the whole backend as you dont need to when using copper pipes, you can get them past the rear brigde with no problem.

There are 3 lines, one feed line, one return and one to the catch tank

The biggest problem is getting the old and corroded screws out of the pipe clambs (I broke a few), as they most likely are rusted tight.

You can however use some self cutting metal screws and just move the clamb a little to the side.

I had a complete set of pipe clambs laying around, and i would recomend to order some new ones so you wont miss any in case they brake when taking them of. They are made of plastic and are old, so they brake very easily.

I also used a 8mm pipe bender.

The problem is all the pipes to the rear end bar the brake lines need doing, and there is some rust around the suspension mounts and rear sill area, and the diff seals need doing, so it makes sense to drop the back and have it all done properly.

Yep, again: identical to what happened with mine and the same fix to get in and sort out everything at the rear at the same time!
