New member and owner
Hello all, finally been validated as a member!!! I've been itching to post about my new purchase but unable to do so until now...
I am the new custodian of NeilS's M5 Touring. So excited, she is an absolute beaut!! As you are probably aware he has spent no little sum of money sorting lots of little niggles...and now it comes to me to continue that tradition.
The car spent the day with Phil Crouch yesterday, and has come back with a pretty extensive list of "niggles" Top of the list are sadly the dreaded suspension issues...front shocks and top mounts are knackered, rears aren't so bad, but one has started leaking. I am just hoping that London Mike and Cyrus are getting on ok with their rebuilt shocks, cos without that lifeline this is going to be a very expensive few months!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to you all, and thanks for an already awesome forum...an additional bonus to owning an M5!
Tim

Tim, welcome.
You may have spotted my avus blue 3.8 at Phils. Its getting a gearbox re-build, service and a couple of niggles sorted out. He did the front two shocks on mine a couple of months ago on mine, so its proving to be an expensive summer.
I understand that he is fitting, or is about to fit, some of these re-conditioned shocks to a customers car, so you should be able to get some first hand info from him as to how they stand up. Then make a decision as to whether to use them. If you need a spare set while your shocks go off for repair, let me know and ill drop them at Phils next time I am down there (soon at this rate!). One side is past repair, but could be used while to prop a corner uo while the original shocks are off being done.
Congrats on your purchase. Im sure you will not mind spending the money fixing it when you realise how well it drives! I bought mine with the intention of going to LeMans and then flogging it. That was over two and a half years ago, and I cant bring myself to sell it.
John

Thanks for the welcome gents...and the kind offer John. Phil seemed reasonably confident however, that he would be able to source some of these reconditioned struts...here's hoping I guess.
On another note (ahem!) I wondered what the best route to a better exhaust sound is? My centre section is cracked, it can apparently be welded, but as I would like the system to be a little more vocal, perhaps this is the time to change - it is really quiet at the moment...roughly how much is an Eisenmann race exhaust? And do I only need the back box?
TIA

I have exactly the same problem, i have a chap making me some pipes to replace the centre box completely, but keep the centre section. It might work, it might sound rubbish, i shall put a clip up when its done.
I thought about the Eisenmann centre and rear box, but they are quoting 6 weeks on delivery.

@ Jon, no decent pics as yet mate...as soon as I do I shall get them posted
@vixpy1 - be really interested to see what it sounds like...I also have a tame exhaust fabricator, perhaps that is a cheap and effective way of improving da noize?!
