I think there existed a 628i too?

I've seen a 645i, with emblems and everything. Made by a guy in Munich I beleive.

Yep, the 630cs was the only E24 with carburattors. The 628csi also existed.

Never heard about the 645csi, I suppose that was probably a "home made" project.
635 csi + 745i engine = 645 csi ?

When I bought my 645, I didn't know a whole lot about it and thought it had the 745 engine. Turns out it was an aftermarket turbo kit, and I'm still trying to find out who did the job...

A 645 must be an interesting drive. I loved the 745 I drove, and I'm sure a 645 would have been a viable car for bmw. But I guess that would conflict with the M verson of it and hence they never produced it... Post some pictures of it when you have time

Carl and others-
This is (sadly) the only picture I have in digital form. It's the day I bought it last summer. What a great day.
You're right; it wouldn't have been viable. 290 HP kind of compromises the 286 HP that the Euro M6 had, much less the US model. That's cool that you've driven a 745. I've only ever seen one, and that was at a gas station in Boston that was run by some folks that brought the car with them from the Middle East.
Nonetheless, I love my altbeast!
Cheers,
-Eliot

Nice ride !

So, it doesn't have the 745i engine on it ?

If I'm not wrong early 745i's had a 3.3 turbo engine and late ones a 3.4. About 252 bhp

What model was your car originally ? Looking the year should be a 635 csi ??

Looks great and I see you don't have the hidious US bumpers either. I was also wondering where you have the 290hp figures from, have you dynoed the car? I'm aware that many 745 owners have "played" with their boost settings to acheive similar numbers that you mentioned...

The more I try to find out about my car, the less I know about it...
The guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner. Here's what he told me:
1) It started as a US 633.
2) It had the engine from a 745 dropped in.
3) The interior had been replaced with Euro dash and instruments, and it also got M6 seats.
4) It had 290 HP.

Here's what I know:
1) It's registered as a 633, which makes sense because the US didn't get a 635 in 1983.
2) It's not the 745's M102 engine, but rather a 3.5 with an aftermarket turbo kit.
3) Everything in the cockpit (warning lights, trip computer, etc.) is in German. That and the fact that it doesn't have the US bumpers leads me to believe that it may have had more of a Euro conversion than just the inside... And the seats are awesome.
4) I haven't had it dynoed, but I believe the 290 figure. I've driven a couple of cars with similar power/weight (Acura NSX, 911 Turbo (965)), and 290 is in the right neighborhood. I've also been in highway races that confirm that general figure.

Things I don't know:
1) Who did the turbo kit. I know it wasn't Hartge; that's all.
2) Whether it actually started in the US or came from Germany as a 635, and it's just registered as a 633 for insurance purposes. As an interesting side note, I tried to register it with BMW NA's Owner's Circle, and they didn't recognize my VIN #, which according to their site assistance, means that it wasn't bought in the US.
3) How much power it actually has.

As far as how quick it is, I'll just say that it's boosted -considerably-, goes like hell, does 110ish in 3rd and that I've never topped out 4th or 5th. In other words, it's fun! Really fun.

If you guys have any insight on how I might be able to find out more about it, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Cheers,
-Eliot
