Twin Turbo 850CSi??????

Hello,

I know this topic has pooped up before, but I thought I might start it off again.

Does anyone have any Pictures and/or Performance specs?

The thing is, eventually I will probably have a Twin Turbo 3 series Convertible as a Daily Driver, and get either the old 850CSi, or if they make the new 8 series, I will get one of them and fully race kit it. Strip it down, race seats, high powered engine, extend fuel tank into boot for thirsty turbo engine etc......

Thanks.

Hi

Dinan in the USA made a very successful Twin Turbo version of the M70 5.0 V12. The Specs where around 550hp and close to 500 foot pounds if memory serves me right. (Sorry if I get this wrong, it is 1:30 in the morning....)

I haven't seen a TT verson of the CSi, this might be due to the fact that the CSi has a higher compression ratio.

If you plan on building a "rocket", I'd go for a different car as the E31 is a heavy beast no matter what you do... Sure you can throw out the seats, half the interior, carbon fiber this and that.... But you'll still have a 1500kg + car that wasn't built for track use.

For track use I'd get a E30 or E36 and sink my money into it. Of course you still need the CSi in the garage for the weekend Autobahn storming...

Regards
Carl

well i'm lookin at puttin SERIOUS money into it, and I don't really care if its still quite heavy, cos I like the look of it, and it's a V12!!

I was talkin to my uncle, and he said if you spend enough money on it, you could probably get 1000hp without NOS. (Imagine the boost!)

you might want to try to replace the entire engine block with a race prepped V12...

Hartge H1

Why not try HARTGE they made one off a kind in the
early nineties I have personally seen that car down in
Beckingen in Germany many years ago
E-31 850 5.0 L Quad-Turbo 500 hp nm/???
and if i am not correct they have a M-70 Quad-Turbo for demonstration in the lobby,,

ps. in july 1991 i testdrove a 325i E-30 205 hp that was a blast
at that time ,,, very short run- but is intergraded deeply in my memories ....

I was there last year with the BMWM5 Tour and there was no such engine in the lobby. I would have remembered

Well I think you might be a little optimistic on the hp numbers even if you do throw a lot of money at it. I know of a current project of designing 4 valve heads for the S70 engine+ a lot of other goodies, higher ratios, larger bore, lightened this and that +++. Target hp is 650-700hp normal aspirated. Price $80000. According to the designer, that is more of less the limit of the design of the engine.

NOS has been tried on a stock M70 engine with very effective results, until the engine threw a tierod...

Keep us informed on your progress on a TT/Quad turbo charged CSi, I'd love you see the results

Carl

Please don't destroy a CSI in that way. It is a rare car.

If you like V12s why not put it into an E30 or E36. It has been done...so it is possible.

Good luck !

Carl,

I had the Hartge Brochure which showed a Quad-Turbo 850i with Hartge's wide body kit. I think the engine was halted at the concept stage thus never made it into production... pity though.

BTW I believe someone did show us a link to a pic of a black Dinan 850 CSi Twin-Turbo liteweight with custom front nose (no pop-up headlite) and underbody diffuser. The car is CA street legal and has a power of around 600+ ps.

There is one here: go to http://www.clube31.com and then find Dinan on the left hand side under Tuners. I think this one has 500-550hp.
