I like it Jimmy , even the spoiler , although I'm not so keen on the Hartge alloys .....if they are Hartge ?!

The colour quite suits a car of this era ,.....

kees -

Sorry - missed query on the spoilers.

Car 143/Luxor beige: as it came to GB it had chrome bumpers and all other usual brightwork, no M-Technic aero kit (front/rear apron mouldings which are effectively over-bumpers, plus side skirts). Thus it would have had the discreet chin spoiler unique to M5 and now NLA (but apparently occasionally also fitted as aftermarket accessory to lesser E28's, check the breakers on ebay!).

It would have had the M-Technic boot lid spoiler - all GB cars had this to the best of my knowledge, though I believe that was actually an option on LHD mainland European cars. Certainly the original LHD Press car didn't have it.

Jimmy,

Car 015 with Cardinal red leather - this car is currently owned by a BMW Car Club GB member (it was originally owned by his father) and is nearing the end of a significant restoration.

It is one of 20 GB cars with 'Special Paint' - the first such supplied into GB - and in this case is Blue/black metallic (you can just see this on the A-pillar in the image). It also had Press preparation. It has satin black chrome and is one of only 3 GB cars with option 9990 Special Upholstery.

Posting the image certainly seems to have pressed Batmobile's buttons! I should have gone to see car 048 in Slough recently when it was for sale to take some images - Glasurit pearlescent white, red leather with white piping....perhaps I'll ring again to see if it was actually sold!

Regards

Car 15 has a thread on out 5 forum www.bmw5.co.uk so have been keeping an eye on its progress, thought it was worth posting the pic of the trim.

I find this M5 in Luxorbeige absolutely stunning, I think that without the red stripes and with the original rearspoiler it is wonderful!!!!!

I have the build sheet (I have sources ), but there was no tag under the rear seat (see the image in the first post). I was wondering if the lack of tag was a common M5 thing.

M5 # 143

I've owned the car for nearly 10 years now, here is the build data I have.

Colour 219 Luxor Beige
Upholstery 0205 Nutria Leather

350 Green Tinted Glass
415 Rear Window Blind
498 Rear Seat Head Restraints
716 M Technic Rear Spoiler
812 GB Specification
530 350 + Air Conditioning
401 Electric Sliding Roof
458 Electric Front Seats Adjustment
500 Headlight Wash-Wipe
780 BBS Wheels 7.50 x 16
850 Additional Petrol

The spoiler is original as far as I know & is definitely NOT an E30 item. I’ve never seen another like it & have always assumed it came from the German options list as new.
Not sure if you can see from the photo but there is a boot lid lip spoiler & the big ‘wing’ on the top.
It does give noticeably more downforce than the M535i has.
Which I would ‘expect’ to be very useful at Autobahn speeds, however as I’ve never been this would obviously be an untested theory…

As for the M Tech bodykit, I haven’t fitted it, the car is as I bought it. (apart from recently fitted gorgeous 16" Hartge’s)
Love at 1st sight...

I'd had my M535i for 8 months at that point, so I obviously like the bodykit.

If memory serves the bodykit was a ‘delete’ option, but I’m not sure who fitted them, the ‘Factory’ or BMW GB. (Did the German cars have it or was it just a UK option?)
The car would look pretty silly with that spoiler & no bodykit though but only the original garage or owner would know for sure.

The stripe is in fact Red & Brown, but on the drivers side has gone a bit orangey.
The passenger side is another, still ongoing as I type, story.

Oh I forgot there is 1 other modification poking out from under the rear valance, the absolutely awesome Fritz’s Bitz Stainless Steel Exhaust.
If you haven’t got 1 you won’t believe the difference it makes.
(no they haven’t paid me to say that)

I meant to post some photo's of the interior but i've left them at home, will try & do it tonite.

If anyone wants to know more of the history or has any questions ask away.
