Another 15 mile bicycle ride yesterday and at last the door and new wings have a bit of paint on them , although it is only primer !

Jamie has had the last 2 saturdays off so we are still waiting on the jacking points being welded .....ho hummmm .

Door and wings prepped , degreased and ready for primer :

An example of some of Richard's earlier work :

Door and wings with first coat of primer :

I finally am starting to feel like we are making some progress......

Welding to jacking points

Managed to get my wife to drop me at the bodyshop on Saturday and Jamie , the welder , had already begun stripping the interior carpet .

It emerges that the driver's side jacking point has pushed through the floor pan and some decent welding is required . Therefore the carpets and soundproofing underlay has to come out to reduce the fire risk amongst other things .

The front seats have been unbolted from their runners and the various pieces of centre console etc removed ......

As Jamie has stated , if we are going to do this job , then we are going to do it properly !

What's amusing and slightly concerning to me is that , not being aware of the various areas needing attention , I was perfectly comfortable bombing back from Nottingham with 150mph + showing on the clock !

Jamie did reassure me , however , that the actual chassis and it's integrity is very good ......phew !

Photos to follow .......

I am not trying to be smart and would genuinely like to know but is it a good idea to push the engine in these cars right to the limit of 150+ mph as they are now old cars. Are you running the risk something might go bang.

Regards

Mate

I understand you, but if you can;t do 150 mph, why bother with all these costs

My thoughts exactly Wout .......number 66 has just had the timing chain done , new tensioner , oil and filter etc etc ......The engine builder commented on how remarkably well the engine had aged .

The engine is just as likely to give up the ghost being revved hard in 2nd gear at 50mph as it is at only around 6,000 rpm at an indicated 150mph .....

I tend not to thrash my cars and wouldn't advise holding any m88 or s38 engine at top end for continually long periods , however , a short squirt up to 150mph on the clock involves no nervousness at all in number 66 .

Enjoy your E28 ........

I just thought it might be tempting fate a little but I take your point. Just my overly cautious nature.

So back to the thread, when will no. 66 be finished?
