I treated Diamond Diana to a new set of Dunlop SP3000 tyres all round today .......

A definite improvement over the previous mis-matched tyres that the previous owner had fitted .

I'm still attempting to resolve the rechargable SI Board battery issue after buying some Uniross batteries without the necessary tabs that don't come off the existing Varta Ni-Cd batteries fitted to the SI Board .....pics and details to follow as I have now ordered another set of Uniross rechargables with tabs attached .

12 new bulbs have been ordered to fit the instrument cluster whilst it is apart ........ it would be an awful shame if one of the current bulbs failed a week after putting it all back together again !

I also suspect that the bulbs from the OBC have failed and have ordered to mini circuit board with bulbs attached in an attempt to cure that problem .

I was flattered to be asked to take part in a Performance Car magazine photoshoot today , featuring Diamond Diana , a Mercedes 190 2.5 Evolution and a Lotus Carlton .......

A shabby pic taken on my phone at the start of the shoot :

The OBC issue has now been rectified witha mini circuit board complete with two small lamps being fitted .

The S.I Board issue is not so straight forward , as the original Varta rechargable batteries are attached by tabs soldered onto the board and are not easy to remove .

I have purchased replacement rechargable batteries with tabs and am concerned that the circuit board could be damaged if overly brutal methods of removing the existing batteries are employed .

I believe that the old tabs should be removed by heating the existing solder holding them in place before resoldering the new battery tabs onto the board .

If any alternatives are better suited , suggestions would be appreciated .

More to follow ......

Meanwhile , there has been a small fuel leak from the rear offside wheel arch area when the tank has been totally filled recently . After inspecting the fuel tank , it became obvious that a new tank was required and this was fitted today .

Pic of old tank which was leaking from around the base of the 3 breather pipes and just to the left of the filler neck . The new tank was liberally coated in Hammerite and the filler neck area in underbody sealant prior to fitment in order to prevent a reoccurrence in the near future .

Thanks for the update David,

I think the petrol tanks are at an age now where we will all be replacing them shortly, was it difficult to remove/install?

BTW, how is your M635 restoration coming along?

Hi Bayerische ,

I haven't even begun the M635 restoration ........ too busy !

Meanwhile , removing the petrol tank on the E28 is relatively straightforward on a ramp , although I'm not sure that I'd like to tackle it on a driveway .

Ideally the exhaust should be removed , as the heatshield is attached to the tank in places . There are 3 breather pipes that need to be removed , a couple of electrical connectors joined to the fuel pump at the top of the tank and a couple of fuel pipes at the same location.

And then there was light !

What a glorious weekend .......

After an absolutely great ride home from Nottingham , where I watched the European Canoeing Championships , I arrived home to a wonderful sunset and just had to take a couple of camera phone pics :
