Well it's getting bloody cold out there and Neil's first baby is due anytime in the next 4 weeks , so I feel a bit fronty expecting him to work on Diamond Diana at the weekend .

Still , if he insists , then who am I to spoil his fun ?!

Today was the final corner ......rear off side . Light stopped play but we have most of the welding done and prepped ready to be finished on our next full day at it ........not long now ( as long as that baby doesn't decide to come early ! )

Despite Neil having to work this morning and that it was windy / raining , he was still up for tackling the last corner of Diamond Diana and so was I !

I was on umbrella duty today , as unfortunately we have to work outdoors !

One umbrella over the welder and me holding the second , dry as a canoe !

Final corner fabricated and welded into place just before we ran out of gas ......

We just have to get her trailered up to the bodyshop now for the two new wings and driver's door to be fitted in order for the restoration to be complete ..........This one will be staying with me !

2008 New Beginnings

Neil's wife had a beautiful little Baby Girl on 2nd Jan 08 , so I had to back off on hassling him to trailer Diamond Diana up to the bodyshop .

After a couple of gentle mentions last week , I borrowed a pick up and onto the trailer she went up to Roger's bodyshop .

Much pleading and begging later ( Roger is extremely busy ) and she was rolled off the trailer , into the yard .

New wings and driver's door are prepped ready for spraying .......nearly there , just keep going !

Putting Her Back Together Again

Spent a glorious , sunshine filled , morning up at the bodyshop today putting Diamond Diana back together again .

A bit of 3M sealant was used around the welding that had been carried out in the driver's footwell to ensure that all is well there :

The passenger footwell has been liberally coated in Hammerite sealing paint before the sound/heatproofing goes back down :

Just connecting all the wiring and putting all the interior back in now :

David,

Just a thought...if you haven't already done so, it would be worth checking all the electrics work several times before you build it back up again. I know you were manning the squeezy bottle during the welding....but I have been there before with my old M535i.

Apologies for teaching granny to suck eggs and all that!

Regards

I think mine was the power mirrors and the electric windows (it was a long time ago) - and having got tired of blowing fuses and/or the circuit breaker it was a pain in the **** to sort out!

I spent so much time on that car that eventually I could open the doors, whistle at the car and the complete console assembly, column shroud and the door cards would all jump out of their own accord into a neat pile on the ground.

Yeah, right....

Regards

I spent all of Friday morning putting the interior of No 66 together and even fired her up after a year off the road .......God , she sounded good !

Roger had a 1985 Mercedes Benz hearse in at the bodyshop for various welding , particularly at the bottom of the doors , so Diamond Diana spends another weekend outside in the cold .

However , my paint man , Richard , gave me some hope by suggesting that I get the front end all undersealed so that he can fit and spray the wings .

I'll be on that next week ...........
