I'll have a set of completely worn tires put on the front wheels in a few days, so I can put them on the car, to get a complete view of what it should look like when it's done.
I probably won't be able to put the wheels on in the first couple of weeks, since the car will be at the leather shop, and I know they are SLOWWWW
nice job Frits
I too prefer the stock look i.e. BBS alloys etc.
You obviously know what you like and congratulations on a job well done!
Looking forward to the end result.
Saterday I attached the license plates of my E36 on the E24, and drove it to the leather shop. This was the first time the car was driven for more than 200m in more than a year. It was a good test to see if I mounted the suspension and brakes right. And I did . I was actually a little worried, since I never did any of this work before, and I'm just a computer programmer...
It was a 40km drive, mostly highway, and everything went smooth. The only problem I had, was I forgot to install the rear view mirror, and that's very weird on the highway.
We did put a bunch of tools and a jack in the boot, just in case something would go wrong, but none of it was needed.
I have no idea when the guys at the leather shop will finish the car, but I could see they were very busy. At the time we got there, there was another guy bringing in a lot of stuff to be trimmed. I think he was also going for a full leather interior (in a Peugeot 206...)
Yesterday I picked up the car from the leather shop. They did the headliner, the A-pillars, the floor mats (not complete yet), and they were supposed to do the steering wheel column. We had a misunderstanding there, I'll have to bring the car in for that again, but they can do it while I wait...
Didn't take any pics of the interior yet, I'll probably be installing some parts in the evening, and take some more pics.
I do have some pictures of the car on the ACS wheels. So, on the outside, this will be the final look. Sorry for the pics, but it was dark when we were finished with the wheels.
I don't know what those words mean De Witt
Doe you mean xenon headlights? I've been thinking about installing OEM xenons from an E32, but haven't found them yet. Don't want to go aftermarket for that...
Didn't do anything yesterday... Was late home from work, and I swapped the wheels on the M5 (was still on the track wheels since Saterday, that's why I use street tires to track the car )
By the end of the weekend, I hope to have 80% of the interior installed. The hardest part is done, and I already did some preparations for the rear side panels, so it should be doable.
We don't have the same taste for exterior mods, but the interior of your six is very nice. Congratulations.
HID means High Intensity Dischareg and yes, this means Xenon's. There where two versions. The older Bosch variant and the latter Hella variant.
The Bosch replacements parts are not available from your's friendly anymore and the control module for the ballasts (HV igniter) is a complex piece of kit that requires an additional wiring loom, even for an E32. The problem is that when unit's are offered on ebay, this wiring loom is not included in thd package. It still is available from your's friendly, but at an outragious price. Baically, it would only fit the existing wiring loom on an E32 or the electrically resembling E34. Besides, the Bosch E32 Xenon's are from a first generation, thus very old technology.
The Hella's are improved technology and much easier to install, even on an E32 or E34 without Xenon's. New parts are still available from your's friendly, but reflectors, lenses, bulbs and igniters come as a single part for more then 700 Euro's per side. Used parts (if available) go for about halve that amount.
When E32 Xenon's, then I would only recommend Hella's for abovementioned reasons. I share your opinion when it comes to after market.
So, in the short version, what parts do you recommend, to install xenon headlights on my sixer?
And, I'm sorry for my ignorance, but "your's friendly", that is you, right?
As for the exterior mods, it's just the wheels and lowering springs really (maybe the red calipers too?). And I guess you're actually only referring to the wheels. Well, that's taste indeed, but in 30 minutes, these are changed...
