Idle Speed Problem Hot/Cold

Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

I had to remove my starter to check & service it due to lazy turnover & sticky solenoid, anyway found that it would be very difficult to access starter bolts with the Airbox in situ so disconected the A/flow/meter & the 12 retaining nuts for the outer throttle bodies, hose to rocker cover, upper breather hose & lower breather hose on dipstick holder.
Once the starter was serviced i noticed the throttle bodies were a bit dirty from crankcase fumes through the breather hoses so decided to give them a cleanup, did that with carb cleaner, toothbrush & dry clean rag. - ( should mention battery was disconnected about 24 Hrs )

Problem
After refitting the airbox carefully & checking all "O" rings were good, connected the hoses etc, starter problem is now cured and engine started first turn but now idles at 1500 Rpm +/- constant & will not go below this (Before maintenance was fine at 700>800 rpm) i have checked AFM connector (only 1 removed) & sprayed with contact stuff, also did throttle pos switch at end of throttle linkage & also cold start connector on top of the rail with no result

Is there something obvious i am missing here that needs reset to regain correct idle speed ? , i even replaced the outside temp sensor on the off chance that may influence the cold start, Thanks Davidoli spot on with location in the nearside brake cooling duct.

Appreciate any suggestions on this problem before i go & strip the airbox off again and do what .

Cheers

Hi Fishy ,

As you had the battery disconnected for a while it may be an idea to let the car settle back .

Drive it for 20 miles or so and see if things return to their former levels .

If not , then Throttle Position Sensor would seem a likely suspect although I don't honestly think so .

Best of luck and keep us updated .

Ok guys as David suggested stayed with it for a day driving but No Use.

Today stripped off everything again, filter/AFM, airbox & outer Th/bodies, totally dismantled cleaned & checked all rubbers (All VGC ) found no faults, put back together & same result fast idle 1500 +/-, I

Got to think this is electrical now ? (I just dont like coincedences).

I dont have a Bentley or other manual as yet for the M5

If possible can anyone post or PM procedure's for checking operation of idle control issues TPS, AFM etc with a multi meter ( Or point me in direction to aquire this info), now beginning to annoy me as this was only a starter issue initially !

Cheers
