Restarting e28 M5 after year in garage

I am in the process of trying to get my car running after being in the garage for at least a year. Time to get it back out on the road this summer. I am also thinking about selling it, since my son is 16 now and eyeing it a little too much. Not a starter car by any means.

In any case, it is failing to start. I replaced the spark plugs, and I've checked to make sure I am getting a spark. Turns over fine, but looks like no fuel to cylinders. How do I check if fuel pump is working and injectors or working? It's possible I need to replace the fuel -- but I used a "long term storage" additive to the fuel tank before I garaged it.

Try changing the fuel, if nothing else. Even with a fuel storage additive it'll probably go bad.Good luck!

Good luck.

Agreed ......new fuel and perhaps a bottle of injector cleaner .

You could also renew the fuel filter near the rear axle as a further measure .

Don't let the boy drive the car ......one must earn one's stripes !

I'd bet $1000 its not the fuel. It is likely the fuel pump. How long have you cranked it? It may take a while to refill the lines after sitting so long.

Good point , although I recently renewed the fuel tank on my E28 M5 and it didn't take much cranking to get fuel up .

One thing is for certain , combustible fuel is not meeting the spark .....

Start with the basics and easiest suspects before anything else .

I would suspect the Fuel, however, it may be worthwhile just spraying some neet fuel into the intake. if you get a cough, or more, you at least confirm its fuel. The other question is do the plugs come out wet or dry after cranking. The electric fuel pump should get fuel their pretty quickly.

hope all goes well
